Looking Foward

I'm not going to do a post on my resolutions or goals for 2015, because
a) I never keep my resolutions (it's sad, but true)
b) I can't even come up with goals, because I don't know what I want. (again, probably kind of pathetic)

But there are a few things, I can tell you what I want to get out of this year! I always love a new year, and the promises it holds. So far, 1 week down: it's been good to me!

  1. I am completing a miniature "resolution/goal every week". Because I do better with baby steps. I write down a bunch of these and put them in a jar, and every week I take a new one out! "Abby the Realist" assumes this will last until March. But we shall see! ;)
  2. Be more connected to the loved ones in my life. Sometimes I have a tendency to distance myself. I am going to be better about keeping in touch with my family and friends I don't see often - and not via social media!
  3. I am looking forward to completing one of the "Top 10 Most Dangerous Hikes in America". In August, Ryan and I will be hiking the Kalalua Trail in Kauai! It's taking a great deal of planning and training, which makes it all the more exciting.
  4. Taking a girls trip with my Mom, sisters, and sister-in-laws! We are going to try to do this every 2 years. I so value my time with these women!!
  5. Finding peace in my career. The healthcare world if ever-changing, and my hospital is about to go through some big changes. My goal is to try my very hardest to be adaptable and positive. Although it's really hard when people all around you are throwing tomatoes in every direction. ;) I love my hospital, and love what I do - so am trying to focus on what makes me happy.
  6. Becoming a better cook. I'd like to try to "tackle" an intimidating recipe every month. I think I'm going to shoot for one this weekend, in fact! (......stay tuned).
  7. Having my husband live under the same roof as me all year long! That's a 1st for a few years.
What are you looking forward to in 2015?

So I just google imaged that trail you are hiking... WOW! That looks pretty freaking beautiful but also a little treacherous! I can't wait to read about it. When we first started planning to go to Hawaii Kauai was the island we most wanted to go too but after lots of research we decided it was just a bit too expensive and hard to get to for our first trip there. One day!

You have a lot to look forward to this year! Good luck with the resolution/goal a week thing! If that falls off during the year you could always do what I've seen other bloggers do and set monthly goals and intentions. That way it's more flexible.

Your trip to Hawaii will be amazing! I can't wait to see pictures and hear all about it.

A great year ahead! I hope you have a wonderful excursion in Hawaii as it sounds pretty exciting!
I agree that we need to keep in touch better as I think we rely too much on social media and not one on one communication!
Sorry I am so behind in reading blogs! January and bookwork make me a bit stressed!

Currently - May edition

I haven't blogged much - but the last time I did one of these, Maddy was 9 months old. It's really fun looking back on the things that were "stressors" to me at that time. Prior to that - my currently post was a pregnancy edition.  So here goes May 2022. Maddy is almost a 15-month old and summer has set ablaze here in Tucson.   Reading :  I really wish I had a better answer for this one, but I have not been the best about reading lately. The only book I'm reading is "How to talk to your kids so they'll listen and listen so they'll talk". It is really good. Most of the book is geared more to school-aged kids, in my opinion. But it highlights some great communication skills with children to help them trust you as a parent to be open and honest. Eating: All the smoothies. It has been getting really hot here - and every day when we get home from our stroller run I make a smoothie for Maddy with whole milk, Fage, and fruit - and then a smoothie for...

A weekend of the great outdoors

As I am preparing for my return to the real world tomorrow, I feel a strong sense of dread. As I won't have a weekend or free week for a long while! Instead of focusing on that.......I'm sharing a few snapshots from our awesome weekend! This weekend we were in Big Lake, AZ -- which is about 20 miles from the New Mexico border (just 5 1/2 hours from our house). (last weekend we were in Parker Canyon...which I will blog about another day) We camped from Friday-Monday, which was the perfect length of time. The temperatures were a great escape from hot Tucson. In fact...it was VERY cold at night. It was in the low 30's at night, 60's during the day. The trout fishing was incredible. Here's a few snapshots: Home Sweet Home for the weekend! Look at the giant tree I cut down!!! Wow!! (Okay, this was posed...) But...Ryan did teach me how to use a wood-saw! There were tons of dead/fallen trees lying around. So we cut all our firewood for the weekend! I felt very ...

Good things

I must say there are many good things I have to be happy about right now! I am in my psychiatric-mental health nursing rotation right now. I originally chose nursing as my major beause from the time I was like 12 I wanted to be a psych nurse. I love it so far. The clinicals are incredible. I am finding I am more organized and ahead of things in this class than I ever have been! Now, if I could be this motived with Critical Care and my Capstone this summer......:) Ryan and I got an entire day together yesterday!!!! This is rare. My spring break kind of sucked. He would leave at about 6 a.m., and not return until 8 p.m. The poor guy is spread too thin! So I cherish a day like yesterday! Which consisted of............. Spring Training baseball!!!!!! Diamondbacks vs. Oakland Atheletics. It was nearly a close-out. 10-1. We met his bosses wife at the game and she insisted we ditch our seats & sit in the seats in front of them that they had purchased . So we were FRONT ROW BEHIND HO...
