March Recap

Another month is upon us, so it's time for the monthly recap. I can't believe how fast March flew by. Which is really funny I'm saying that -- b/c when I lived in North Dakota .... it felt like March went on forever! Amazing what a little warmth & sunshine can do for one's perspective!
Current Book(s):
"Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing" by Videbeck. Riviting piece. Actually, to be honest, this is the most diligently I have read a text book in nursing school yet. I have a keen interest - so kind of look forward to learning/reading this stuff!

Current Music:
Oh goodness, Regina Spektor & Ben Folds. Rediscovered these artists and can't get enough.
Current Shame-Inducing Guilty Pleasure:
Definitely ketchup-and-mustard.
I have always been a lover of this. We all know my love for mustard (I put it on everrrything).

The past week this love has become out-of-control. I put it on my salad, I put it on toast for a light lunch, Yum.  It's my comfort food.
 Current Colors:
Anything springy - especially whites, pinks, and yellows.

Current Obsessions:
Definitely psychiatric disorders because I read/write papers about it all day long, flowers/gardens, and spinning. I don't have access to a "spin class" - but my gym has spin bikes, and I love creating different intervals and workouts. Makes me dream about my goal of someday being an instructor!

Current Drink:
Milk! This is soooooo out of character for me. I remember as a child, sitting at the dinner table for 20-30 min after meals -- Mom & Dad pleading with me "Just drink it! 2 gulps. The warmer it gets, the worse it'll taste. You won't leave this table!!"

I still don't like it, no worries (haven't changed that much!). But, I need calcium or I will have very brittle bones some day.....

Current Song:
"Lady" - Regina Spektor. I highly recommend you listen to this song. The ending has this saxophone solo that melts my heart.

Current Movie:
I recently saw "Love Happens". It's Jennifer Aniston's most recent (I think it's her most recent. I dunno, I'm not always up-to-date with Hollywood). Anyways, it was wonderful. It's about dealing with the grief of losing a loved one. The movie turned my eyes into waterfalls by the end -- definitely a tear jerker.
Current TV Shows:
I really haven't been watching tv lately. Nothing really catches my attention -- so instead of just "giving in" and watching some that sucks -- I find other things to do.

Current Wish-List:
A cute dress for graduation. I "walk" the first weekend in May, and Ryan & I are having our party in mid-March. So far, shopping for one has been very very unsuccessful!! :(

I also wish for the wind to quit blowing. It has been out of control here lately. My allergies don't agree with the current conditions.
Current Needs:
A full night of sleep. I can't remember the last time I slept a full night. I've been waking hourly!! Ahh. Insanity.
Current Triumph:

My half marathon time last week of 1:50!! According to a "running timer" -- to run a Boston-qualifying marathon, the half must be 1:50  (for my current age-group). So I'm half-way to my life-long goal?...really I have a long way to go.

Current Bane of my Existence:
Wind & not sleeping. And my eyes. The allergies caused my eyes to go absolutely nuts 2 weeks ago. I am still taking eye drops 4 times/day. It's getting old!
Current Goal:
For April, my goal is to finish off this semester with a 4.0. (how exciting......that's my goal every month I think...)

I've made it this far --so I would really like to be a good-nursing-student for the full program!

Current Indulgence:
Fresh Pinapple. And Pickled herring. Not together, of course. But those are 2 new things I've indulged in lately.....

Current Blessings:
The normalcy of my life and blessing of good mental health!! My days on the psychiatric ward, observing AA meetings, Electro-Convulsive Therapy clinicals, behavioral court, outpatient clincals at an "AIDs-clinic" .....these experiences have made me sooo extremely thankful for my life/family/stability. Wow!
Current Slang or Saying:
"Cotton Pickin". It's my non-swear-word of the month. Used in a sentence, "She's so cotton-pickin' rude! She should really keep her cotton-pickin' mouth shut!" :)

Current (Fav) Outfit:
Spring dresses, shorts paired with light cardigans, and my new swimming suit! Swimming suits are one of my weaknesses -- and now that it's creeping into the 80's-90's...I am able to wear my favorites again!

Current Excitement:
Last week I recieved my honor's cords. I never thought I'd graduate from college with honors, especially after getting 2 C's my sophomore year! (absolutely devastating to my life..........) AND......
I get to see my family is a little over 1 month -- for they're coming out for me & Ryan's graduation!

Current Mood:
Hmmm....I've going to say overall I'm very happy! But, due to a few factors, distractions, and lack of sleep -- I'm quite "touchy" and irritable at times!

How exciting that you got your honor cords!! I am so proud of you and all of your hard work. Your determination is paying off, and a reward such as that is a small token of it!

I'm with you - where did the month of March go? Maybe it has something to do with the fact that you're clearly crazy busy!

Must be nice to be almost finished school! Congrats to you.

Middle of May, right? If it was the middle of March, we missed the party! Shucks! I know it was a typo, though!
Hey, you also read "The Sunflower" in March. :)

I actually used "cotton picking" when talking about something with mom & dad this weekend!

I also am loving the springy dresses. I went to Loft today to see if they had any good stuff on clearance as I am really low on tops, and they had some fun dresses so maybe check there? I ended up scoring a deal on some cute cropped pants & a ruffly top that I will wear a cardigan over. Maybe I will wear that to the graduation party!

What is your color?

Green My favorite color ever! I have to control myself to not purchase too many green things. If I had no control, my house would be green. My kitchen would be lime-themed. With greenery everywhere. My bathrooms would be green. My bedroom would be green. You would all feel nauseated-green after entering my home. (So I don't have a green-themed home) Many things I love are green, such as: Spinach (I eat it a minimum twice a day usually) My weding color was green. (clover green) Limes (I have at least one time a day) Grass. I love the feel of grass, especially since I see it so rarely in AZ (except in my neighborhood that has amazing landscapers with grass-galore) Palm trees. Any tree. Christmas trees. I love Christmas Green Beer. I think the green beer on St. Patty's Day tastes better. My favorite color of eyes. When I was in 9th grade, I so badly wanted to get green contacts. But they made me keep my brown eyes. Diet Mountain Dew (my guilty pleasure) Granny Smith

Currently - May edition

I haven't blogged much - but the last time I did one of these, Maddy was 9 months old. It's really fun looking back on the things that were "stressors" to me at that time. Prior to that - my currently post was a pregnancy edition.  So here goes May 2022. Maddy is almost a 15-month old and summer has set ablaze here in Tucson.   Reading :  I really wish I had a better answer for this one, but I have not been the best about reading lately. The only book I'm reading is "How to talk to your kids so they'll listen and listen so they'll talk". It is really good. Most of the book is geared more to school-aged kids, in my opinion. But it highlights some great communication skills with children to help them trust you as a parent to be open and honest. Eating: All the smoothies. It has been getting really hot here - and every day when we get home from our stroller run I make a smoothie for Maddy with whole milk, Fage, and fruit - and then a smoothie for

8 Months

Well, I missed month 1-8. But it is never too late to begin, right? Here is a recap of Maddy at 8 months. (I'm totally stealing this idea from my sister, Lisa. I thought it was so neat that she recaps her son's favorites and happenings every month)   How am I sleeping? Better than I was - but not as good as my peers. It also depends on if I'm teething. Last week, her 2nd tooth was poking through - so she was awake 3 times.  No matter how much I let her cry it out, I cannot seem to cut down her feedings. When I go in there - she is literally pulling at my shirt with her mouth wide open. So clearly she's hungry.  She eats 2 times/night and luckily goes right back to sleep. It is what it is. What am I eating? While we have had breastfeeding and bottle refusal struggles - I am so glad that taking to food as been relatively smooth. We are doing baby led weaning, and Maddy really enjoys most every food I've given her.  Her favorite foods are scrambled eggs, apples, and c
