Oh Goodness

Do you ever have one of these weeks, where you feel like scheduling a time to just go ahead and lock your keys in the car? You know -- Since you feel like it's going to happen, with the way things are going?

(I can totally relate to this kid right now...)

Yep. I'm having that in the past 2 days. I'm not even going to start delving into the whole conundrum involving my Practicum schedule - because just thinking about thinking about it makes an ulcer burn deep in my stomach.

But let's just say, things aren't going "my way" with that.'

Today, while working on some final touches to my presentation (Capstone)....I spilled water.

A 32 oz glass of water. Not 1, not 2, but 3 times.

Which means, I was on my hands & knees with the "Sham-Wow" 3 times today.

Then I went to the grocery store. I meticulously spent time on this shopping trip trying to exactly what I need, sans a list, within budget.

I did the self check out, because I hate having to talk to annoying cashiers at my grocery store.

And when it was time to pay.....I realized I left my wallet at home.

So I asked if I could keep my stuff on the side, run home, and get my wallet.

So I did.

I walked through the house, searched everywhere - and couldn't find it.

I then realized....the wallet was in my car.

I returned to the grocery store, and my cart was GONE.

The man who said he'd watch my cart, did not follow through on this - and an employee put all my stuff back where it belongs.

So, I think after writing this blog - I'm going to go and lock my keys in the car. Just so I can say, "Well, that's done!"

...that way, it won't occur when I'm pressed for time.

Maybe if I weren't so scatter-brained.......none of these events would have happened! :)

Thank God this is a day that I don't have clinicals, or Capstone, or a job interview! :)

Wellness Wednesday: "I So(y) don't want to get heart disease!"

And to begin my Wellness Wednesday, I think I may win the award for Cheesiest Lamest Title!!! :-)

First off, I am feeling more "well" this Wednesday. I just finshed my FINAL DRAFT of the Capstone paper, my presentation is complete - and I finished writing all papers for the rest of this course.

Which means...I just finished my LAST PAPER of my undergrad!!!

But, now to my wellness Wednesday. I "So-(y)" don't want to get heart disease! Soy Milk.

As I revealed Monday, I will be beginning marathon training soon. Because I am very paranoid about Bone Health - I am stepping up my "calcium intake".

However, being a little bit Lactose Intolerant - I can't really drink plain skim milk as much anymore.

So, Ryan & I have started incorporating Silk Soy Milk Light into our "Grocery Staples". But, before this plan was implemented - I did a little research on Soy, and here is what I found!

  • In 1999, the FDA acclaimed the benefits of Soy Protein to lower LDL (bad cholesterol), Total cholesterol, and Triglycerides.
  • Soy Milk has the same amount of Calcium as standard Skim Milk.
    • It offers 30% of your RDA (I did a little comparing)
  • The protein in soy is created with vegetable proteins only
    • which means less loss of calcium through the kidneys (soyabe.com)
  • No Lactose for those of us with sensitive stomachs (that's an obvious one...)
  • It is a nice source of protein

Uses
  • It's a little sweeter than regular milk - so it's pretty good on bland-tasting cereal!
  • And here's a recipe for a smoothie that I tried for a "Post-Run" breaskfast today!:
    • 1 banana
    • 1 packet Splenda
    • 5-8 strawberries
    • 1 cup Silk Light Soy Milk
    • handful of ice cubes
    • 1/8 tsp vanilla
    • Blend it up in a blender and enjoy! :)

Ten On Tuesday

This weeks 10 on Tuesday is explaining what product you guys for the following categories, and why. Kind of fun and fresh!

Happy Tuesday!

1. Cell Phone

-Blackberry Tour. It's alright, kind of slow. I was going to go with the Droid, per my husbands recommendation. But, I was way too indimidated by the technical-ness of the Droid.
-And, I will always be a Verizon girl.

2. Email
-I like Gmail. Love how it groups reply-emails together. Also - there are a lot of extra neat features with it (if you play around with it)

3. Toothpaste
Crest Pro-Health Daytime. It. Is. Amazing.
Why do I like it? Is it because of it's acclaimed "health benefits"?
Oh no. It's because it almost tastes like "Sparkle Toothpaste" for adults.
You remember kid's sparkle tooth paste? Yeah, Heavenly.

4. Car
-I drive a Pontiac Grand Prix. I remember when I got it - I chose it because it looked more "snappy" than my other choices. Yes, I am one of "those people" that judge "books by their cover". When looking at the features of a vehicle, the color is a major priority.
-But, in a few years I will be driving a Honda Civic Hybrid (Ryan's current car)

5. Writing Utensil
The most basic BLACK Bic pen, because it's consistent.
In fact, I've gone through our "pen-drawer" and removed all the blue and red pens. It irritates me when I grab a pen, start writing, and it's blue. Ugh.

6. Lotion
I have no consistent lotion I use. Right now, I'm using Dove. Whatever it is - it must have Oatmeal in it (during the summer especially). I get heat rash weekly here - and oatmeal-lotions are supposed to soothe it!
7. Interior Paint
-I am still confused about paint. Eggshells, satin, glossy, semi-glossy. Green, Spinach. Magenta, blue, aqua, periwinkle. So intimidating....
8. Soda/Drink
-I don't really drink soda anymore. Which is crazy for me to say - b/c I usedto be Mrs. Diet Soda.
-I prefer lemonade crystal light. Mmm. And fresh squeezed lemons & limes added to make it even more sour.

-(and now my 2 cents on excessive diet soda-drinking: I had a patient last week that was 36 years old, and she had a Total Hip Replacement. She also went through a 12-pack of Diet Coke every day. Diet soda has phosphorus which basically cancels out calcium. Scary!!!)

9. Laundry Detergent
Tide, and the powder. According to a little research I did a year back...... liquid detergent can increase mildew in your washer, because it gets stuck in the little cracks and holes of your machine! (ew!!)

10. Medicine
No medicine is good medicine...but....

If I'm going to be sick .....

I love Vick's Vapor Rub. Good stuff. And Robotussin. It cannot be the generic brand. It cannot be "Cough/cold" version. It must be the original Robotussin-DM. Yumm-o.

Also, Bengay is amazing. Especially on my neck after a long day.

The Weekend

This is a very surreal, and odd feeling. For, it is Sunday night, and I am looking forward to Monday - and ready for the week to begin. I must say that looking back on the weekend - it was one of the most revitalizing one's I've had in a while!

So here it is!

This weekend was kicked off early (Thursday night) by....
  • Coming home from a 13.5 hour day of clinicals to find.....
  • An invitation under my pillow for......
  • A weekend Staycation at the Star Pass Resort &Spa (check it out!) on our...
  • 1 year anniversary, which happens August 8! (Wow, that year went fast)
  • All this has been up Ryan's sleeve for the past week. I am quite pleased, and SO ready for a little "get-away" from reality!

Accomplishments of the weekend included.....
  • I finished writing all the content for my Capstone presentation
  • ........Which relieved POUNDS of stress from my shoulders.
  • After my tomato plant's near-death experience (from our camping trip - absense) - I have tomatoes again! And many daisies! And beautiful vincas.
  • I learned that having a melt-down over school gets nothing accomplished.
  • I purchased my "Interview Outfit" for the interviews coming up in the next months dealing with school, job interviews (hopefully!), and my Capstone day

Something I learned from this weekend .....
  • Business suits make women look very "put together" and "accomplished"
  • .......I look like a 12 year old in a Flight Attendant costume. *sigh*
  • But I did find something that worked, with my husband's critiquing.
  • It is unbelievable peaceful running early early Sunday morning next to the Pecan fields before the rest of the world wakes up.
  • The Strawberry-Lime Real Fruit Slush from Sonic will give you a very bad headache if drank too fast. But is so good it's worth the headache!
Big news from the weekend.....
  • We redeemed our free airline vouchers to buy tickets home for Thanksgiving (which would've cost $1200. We paid nothing for them!)
  • I registered for the Tucson Marathon on 12/12/10!

Hope you all had a fantastic weekend! And here's to a great week :)
