Happy Friday - Looking Forward

I am totally copy-catting my sister today. But anyone who knew us growing up, now this is not a "new" behavior for me. ;) I always was her shadow. I've toned it down a bit over the years....

But I saw all the exciting things she has to look forward to in October, and it got me excited about my month too!

October 2-3: I am heading on my 1st "work trip" ever! I know some may snicker at this, as traveling is part of their daily job. But in nursing, it's not every day you get to fly across the country. I also want to clarify - that I realize traveling for your job is not "fun", and becomes quite exhausting. But being the wife of the one who's out of town every other week....I am really excited to be the one who's leaving town for a few days ;)

I'll be heading to Arlington, VA for a IPF Conference (that's Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis). I've been invited to serve on the team as an "ambassador", and give my input from a nursing standpoint on how our  patients work through symptom management and the therapies we place them on. I've worked really hard on the program I support, and I've excited to show my speadsheets of data and share ideas with other clinicians!

Okay, done geeking out ;)

October 14-18: I'm off to Miami, Florida with my dear Mom and Sisters for our 2nd "Girls Trip"!!! I originally was going to sit this year out, because of a lack of PTO. But I was able to squeeze in 3 days to make it happen! So excited to get some quality time with these ladies, and some sunshine!!!

October 23-25: I'm in a wedding for one of my closest girlfriends. The wedding is Gatsby Themed - and we have had so much fun planning this! It's going to be the event of the year!

In between all this, I will be squeezing in some LONG bike rides with my friend Amanda, as we train for the Tour de Tucson (which is November 21). I think our biggest ride needs to be about 70 miles. Thankfully, the weather will start to cool down and make it much more tolerable.

And Ryan and I will be training for a half marathon today. This will be his 1st half marathon, and hopefully my fastest. I've got some "speed work" on my plate these next few weeks! I'd love to get a PR in my last Tucson Marathon!

What are you looking forward to?

You do have lots of fun things to look forward to in October! I can't wait for our girls trip! It will be great to relax on the beach and spend quality time together. I'm so glad you were able to make this trip happen as it wouldn't have been the same without you!! I got some recommendations from a former colleague that used to live there and chatting with her about Miami made me even more excited!

I hope that the half marathon training goes well and that you PR! I love racing half marathons. They are the perfect distance as they are still challenging but not so time consuming/exhausting to train for.

Sounds like your work trip will be great! I am sure it will be fun to be around others in your field and trade ideas. Phil wishes he could travel for work. He knows it's not glamorous but he says he feels like I have more of a 'grown up job' than he does since I travel occasionally. ;)

Your work trip sounds interesting and fun :) I hope you have a great time!

I'm looking forward to going on a trip next week with some friends to run a relay race. I'm also looking forward to the start of the NHL season :)

Good luck with your HM training :)

You, too, have a super October in the making! I, too, am so happy you were able to get time off to join us in Miami as it wouldn't be the same without you!
Your trip for work sounds really exciting! Can't wait to hear all about it!

What is your color?

Green My favorite color ever! I have to control myself to not purchase too many green things. If I had no control, my house would be green. My kitchen would be lime-themed. With greenery everywhere. My bathrooms would be green. My bedroom would be green. You would all feel nauseated-green after entering my home. (So I don't have a green-themed home) Many things I love are green, such as: Spinach (I eat it a minimum twice a day usually) My weding color was green. (clover green) Limes (I have at least one time a day) Grass. I love the feel of grass, especially since I see it so rarely in AZ (except in my neighborhood that has amazing landscapers with grass-galore) Palm trees. Any tree. Christmas trees. I love Christmas Green Beer. I think the green beer on St. Patty's Day tastes better. My favorite color of eyes. When I was in 9th grade, I so badly wanted to get green contacts. But they made me keep my brown eyes. Diet Mountain Dew (my guilty pleasure) Granny Smith...

A weekend of the great outdoors

As I am preparing for my return to the real world tomorrow, I feel a strong sense of dread. As I won't have a weekend or free week for a long while! Instead of focusing on that.......I'm sharing a few snapshots from our awesome weekend! This weekend we were in Big Lake, AZ -- which is about 20 miles from the New Mexico border (just 5 1/2 hours from our house). (last weekend we were in Parker Canyon...which I will blog about another day) We camped from Friday-Monday, which was the perfect length of time. The temperatures were a great escape from hot Tucson. In fact...it was VERY cold at night. It was in the low 30's at night, 60's during the day. The trout fishing was incredible. Here's a few snapshots: Home Sweet Home for the weekend! Look at the giant tree I cut down!!! Wow!! (Okay, this was posed...) But...Ryan did teach me how to use a wood-saw! There were tons of dead/fallen trees lying around. So we cut all our firewood for the weekend! I felt very ...

One Confused Lady

Yesterday morning was packed with a session of cross training.....rushed home to shower and get professional-looking....headed across town for an interview.....kicked butt at my interview...."bopped" over to our house to see the progress of the build......headed to the "design center" to sign more paperwork.... (Side note: I cannot get over just how much paperwork is involved in building a house. Holy Hannah. And we haven't even closed !!! Iy-yi-yi....Those lovely people in history who got law-suit-happy.....God bless 'em.) Yesterday was a good day! So here's a little humor for your Thursday. A little thought. A little depth.....( A little cynical rant ) Afterwards, I decided to head to one of my favorite places to peruse.... Target. But my experience at Target was far from fun, relaxing, or pleasant. Just confusing. Loud. Crazy. Despite many screaming children-temper tantrums.... Which is common and un-escapable. Although screaming chi...
