Ten On Tuesday

1. When you were a senior in high school, what career did you think you’d choose? Did you? Why or why not?

I thought I was going to be a Music Educator. I wanted to major in Music Education, and then go on to get my masters and be a professor for trombone specifically. Why did I change my mind? -- I do not know! I think when I really evaluated myself, I realized my biggest interest was in health/medicine/etc.
2. What one thing about the “real world” did you find most surprising once you were on your own?

The last 5 words of the question spells it out: "You were on your own.". It first hit me about 2 weeks after I moved to Tucson, and it was rough! For the first time in my life....I had no one to solve my problems for me, no one to cry to. It was a good learning experience.
3. Name 3 things you think your closest friends DON’T like about you.
-I am way to much of a hermit! For example: my spring break week? -- I did not speak face-to-face with a single person other than Ryan. I am way too content in my own little crab shell.
-I'm quite distanced. Hence why I have met very few people since I've moved to AZ. Once, again -- the crab shell.
-Stubborn!

Wow, anyone want to be friend??? (That made me sound quite horrid. I'm not that bad)

4. In order to sleep, do you need background noise or absolute quiet?
Me? No. I could sleep with no sound and I could sleep through a tornado.
But do I currently sleep with white noise? Yes. Thank you, husband. He has to have a fan or something making a slight noise in the background. So I've adjusted.

5. Why do you choose to reside in your current city? Yes, you have a choice.
Because I was a very bold little lady about 2 years ago. I was dating my husband, he asked me to move to Tucson with him, and I said yes. I'm glad I did it! I kinda like him ;)

And now, we're stuck here because I have a contract with a hospital and he just signed a contract with his job. But I'm pleasantly content here and have learned to like it here! If I didn't have my husband, however? -- I'd be one sad, lonely lady.
6. Are you close to your parents?
Extremely! They are my best friends. I've learned so much from them. I'm quite fortunate to have such a great relationship with my parents -- for not everyone in this world is blessed with that! And how comforting is it to know they'll love me no matter what! :)
7. What is your favorite fiction book? Poem? Blog?
Poem: "Where the Sidewalk Ends" - Shell Silverstein. The whole book. Here's one for your pleasure:
There is a place where the sidewalk ends
And before the street begins,

And there the grass grows soft and white,

And there the sun burns crimson bright,

And there the moon-bird rests from his flight

To cool in the peppermint wind.
Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black

And the dark street winds and bends.

Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow

We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow,

And watch where the chalk-white arrows go

To the place where the sidewalk ends.
Yes we'll walk with a walk that is measured and slow,

And we'll go where the chalk-white arrows go,

For the children, they mark, and the children, they know

The place where the sidewalk ends.

Favorite fiction book: I don't remember the last time I read a fiction book. It's been awhile! So we'll go with another children one "The BFG"
Favorite Blog- I can't pick one. Every blog I read I enjoy for different reasons!

8. Do you enjoy cooking or is it a chore?
I love cooking. It relaxes me, and is so fun! Especially when it tastes delicious

9. Be honest. What one thing would (the majority of) your blog readers be shocked to find out about you?
This is tough, for I am pretty "tell all" in my blogging. And most of my blog-readers are family......

I was on a "dance team" for 1 year of high school. It was called "Danceline".We wore these god-awful black and silver-sequinned uniforms. We'd put our hair in updo's and spray sparkley glitter in our hair. I'd prance around the gym floor for half-time shows of basketball games like an idiot. I joined the team purely because I wanted to be involved in everything.

I am so not a "dance-team girl"

10. If you were given your own national holiday, what would you require people to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner on the Day of You? Would there be a parade? Greeting cards?
Breakfast: Everyone would have to eat cereal with milk (or soy milk) and bananas (or berries if you need to limit your potassium for a kidney issue). And the cereal would need to be mildly soggy. I would mandate the cereal type...but I understand some need to avoid gluten, milk products etc....
Lunch: On Abby Day, one must eat a plate filled with tomatoes, fresh-sliced cucumbers, broccoli, carrots, jicama, bok choy, and peppers. You will have to find a friend/loved one to have a lemon eating contest with to see who will win the battle of lemons." (Wow, I am weird)
Dinner: It will be tradition to bake a squash on this holiday. Spaghetti, butternut, acorn - whatever you want. The feast will be celebrated over any seafood of choice (shimp, salmon, mahi-mahi, crab....mmmm)
Parade: Meh, I'm not a big parade lover. So no. No parades will occur on my national holiday. But family get-togethers will occur.
Greeting cards: Yes. Greeting cards are fun. I will make sure there are many singing greeting cards available for this holiday.

Great post! I so remember your danceline days - and you were the one who always wore the best smiles! People always commented about that but I guess it was just pasted on, huh? I understand her love of hermitville! It's my favorite place to be, too!

Omigosh! I am totally surprised about you being on danceline! For no other reason than you always describe yourself as such an anti-social introvert in highschool. You are a fabulous dancer & have a darling smile, so I can absolutely see it, though.

Love your "holiday" answer, speaking of which, you didn't happen to find anything on your doorstep tonight did you? ;)
These were fun to read!

I remember finding out you were in dance line and being SO NOT HAPPY. I think I complained about it to mom because I knew you were not 'that kind of girl'. ;)

I am also a hermit. I think we are both introverts, so we need alone time to re-energize.

The national holiday answers just made me laugh. Hilarious. I'm sort of a butternut squash fan, so I'd be ok with that. And, singing greeting cards are always fun!!

I'm totally with you on the hermit thing..but I always try and justify it because I'm writing a thesis so I have to spend a lot of time in my house writing! True story: the other day I was at work and I couldn't figure out why I was so uncomfortable. Then it dawned on me that it was the first day in 4 days that I'd worn pants with buttons because I'd spent four days secluded inside my place, doing school work and wearing pj pants. Ridiculous!

I love Shel Silverstein and "The BFG" as well. Let me know when "Abby Day" is and I will run out and buy those vegies and seafood!

What is your color?

Green My favorite color ever! I have to control myself to not purchase too many green things. If I had no control, my house would be green. My kitchen would be lime-themed. With greenery everywhere. My bathrooms would be green. My bedroom would be green. You would all feel nauseated-green after entering my home. (So I don't have a green-themed home) Many things I love are green, such as: Spinach (I eat it a minimum twice a day usually) My weding color was green. (clover green) Limes (I have at least one time a day) Grass. I love the feel of grass, especially since I see it so rarely in AZ (except in my neighborhood that has amazing landscapers with grass-galore) Palm trees. Any tree. Christmas trees. I love Christmas Green Beer. I think the green beer on St. Patty's Day tastes better. My favorite color of eyes. When I was in 9th grade, I so badly wanted to get green contacts. But they made me keep my brown eyes. Diet Mountain Dew (my guilty pleasure) Granny Smith

Currently - May edition

I haven't blogged much - but the last time I did one of these, Maddy was 9 months old. It's really fun looking back on the things that were "stressors" to me at that time. Prior to that - my currently post was a pregnancy edition.  So here goes May 2022. Maddy is almost a 15-month old and summer has set ablaze here in Tucson.   Reading :  I really wish I had a better answer for this one, but I have not been the best about reading lately. The only book I'm reading is "How to talk to your kids so they'll listen and listen so they'll talk". It is really good. Most of the book is geared more to school-aged kids, in my opinion. But it highlights some great communication skills with children to help them trust you as a parent to be open and honest. Eating: All the smoothies. It has been getting really hot here - and every day when we get home from our stroller run I make a smoothie for Maddy with whole milk, Fage, and fruit - and then a smoothie for

8 Months

Well, I missed month 1-8. But it is never too late to begin, right? Here is a recap of Maddy at 8 months. (I'm totally stealing this idea from my sister, Lisa. I thought it was so neat that she recaps her son's favorites and happenings every month)   How am I sleeping? Better than I was - but not as good as my peers. It also depends on if I'm teething. Last week, her 2nd tooth was poking through - so she was awake 3 times.  No matter how much I let her cry it out, I cannot seem to cut down her feedings. When I go in there - she is literally pulling at my shirt with her mouth wide open. So clearly she's hungry.  She eats 2 times/night and luckily goes right back to sleep. It is what it is. What am I eating? While we have had breastfeeding and bottle refusal struggles - I am so glad that taking to food as been relatively smooth. We are doing baby led weaning, and Maddy really enjoys most every food I've given her.  Her favorite foods are scrambled eggs, apples, and c
