Nursing school is nearly complete. This isn't going to be the most entertaining post you've ever read. However, it's a landmark in life for me - so it's worth blogging about.
Yesterday I submitted my top 3 choices for my practicum, which will begin the last week of June. And my requests went as follows:
1) ICU
2) Telemetry (I heart the heart)
3) Emergency Department
I made these choices strategically. In practicum, I'm at the hip of a nurse for 7 weeks working his/her schedule. It's a chance for me to do something that I hope to be in some day - however, I won't have as heightened of a fear of killing a patient. (since my nurse will be there) Also, doing my practicum in these departments may increase my chances of getting a job in a better unit of the hospital?!
There's no psych in my sponsoring hospital. And...I want to learn the tricks of the trade and skills on the medical side! (Plus...the emergency department has a ton of psych!!! My 1st day of ED was incredible!)
I have also submitted my idea for my Capstone Project - which is HUGE. I've probably put in 6 hours total just reseraching to FIND a topic. (ahhhhhhh!!!!!!! so frustrating) And I have settled on:
The effectiveness of long-term health after open heart surgery (CABG) in comparison to PTCA stents (angioplasty). Woooo hooooooo!!!! Poor Ryan is going to have to listen to me rattle on and on about stents, open heart surgery, and Plavix for the next 15 weeks.
I think it's kind of interesting, though. Because how many of you know someone that's had MULTIPLE stents placed?! However, after a BIG surgery - that person has a daily reminder with a giant scar on their chest!
Oh! And Ryan graduates in exactly one week!!! Life is good. So send prayers our way during his finals next week. Also, he kicked butt in his "Wireless Power Transmission" Senior Design Project! He even got on the news!
Well, I am wishing everyone a great weekend and a Happy Mother's Day! I sure wish I could be spending Sunday with my favorite woman.

When do you do your practicuum? Is that after this 15 week curriculum?
