Weekend-o-Bliss

Remember how I said I had Wednesday-Sunday off? It was going to be a wonderful weekend?

Yep. It was!

Since I worked Tuesday night, I did have to sleep until about noon Wednesday-- and when I woke up....I put on my garden-gear and got STRAIGHT to planting for flowers, picking weeds, etc.

Here are a few "moments" from the weekend (pictures will be coming....tomorrow? Tuesday? Wednesday?)

  • Getting time to go to spin-class with Ryan- this is the only "exercise class" I can tolerate that doesn't irritate me. I don't get bored. And people don't get in the way. I also like my boxing class - because it involves a punching bag.
  • Searing the most tender, perfect, amazing venison loins on the grill. They were marinated over-night in Red Wine. Served with fresh green-beans. Mmm
  • Doing more gardening - planting Primroses & petunias.
  • Celebrating St. Patrick's Day at an Irish pub near our house with some good friends. I love me some green beer!
  • Doing a 10 mile hike, and being rewarded 4 miles in with giant pools of water! My crazy husband even cliff dived! I just waded in the cold water....
    • On a side note...I think we got mini-heat stroke. 6 hours hiking/running in 86-degree heat, and hot AZ sun. Yikes!
  • Spending Friday & Saturday morning sitting in our backyard sipping coffee....ahhhh
  • Saturday morning Ryan studied -- while I cleaned out and went to the gym. While @ the gym...I witnessed a 70-something woman do an entire dance routine.....on the stair master. It kind of made my day. She could've been a You-Tube Sensation
  • Saturday afternoon was spent smoking ribs & sipping mojitos. I also made a Cranberry Vinagrette salad & baked beans
  • Saturday evening Ryan's family came over for dinner. It was the 1st time we've ever made our ribs for other people...so this made for some nerves! But....they turned out just perfect.
So yes, it was a good weekend! Cooking. Gardening. Hiking. Working out. I'd say it was exactly what I needed.

AND....This is my last week of night shift!

Ha, that is awesome about the 70-something dancing on the cardio machine! That would totally make my day - too funny!

Mmm, ribs sound glorious right now! I have not had red meat in awhile!

No more night shift!!! Yay. I'm catching up on blogs tonight. Crossbreeding/nerdy experiments is probably the best thing I read all week :) And, rhubarb slush. Yes please !! YUM.

Sounds like a great weekend!
Your food sounds incredible, too!

Did I miss the second installment of the bad car weekend? Darn.

Wonderful staycation you had! You were so lucky to see that lady do that dance routine! This morning on the news they showed a man who skydived for his 100th birhtday! Some people just amaze me! I can't wait to see pictures - food sounded so good! And you must finish the car story before you forget completely!

Thank you AGAIN, for having us over on Sunday. Your hardwork on the yard is paying off, it looks beautiful! And the ribs tasted better than the pictures look. Seriously, DELICIOUS! We felt so special, knowing how long they take to cook and how much work you guys put into dinner. Love you both very much!

Currently - May edition

I haven't blogged much - but the last time I did one of these, Maddy was 9 months old. It's really fun looking back on the things that were "stressors" to me at that time. Prior to that - my currently post was a pregnancy edition.  So here goes May 2022. Maddy is almost a 15-month old and summer has set ablaze here in Tucson.   Reading :  I really wish I had a better answer for this one, but I have not been the best about reading lately. The only book I'm reading is "How to talk to your kids so they'll listen and listen so they'll talk". It is really good. Most of the book is geared more to school-aged kids, in my opinion. But it highlights some great communication skills with children to help them trust you as a parent to be open and honest. Eating: All the smoothies. It has been getting really hot here - and every day when we get home from our stroller run I make a smoothie for Maddy with whole milk, Fage, and fruit - and then a smoothie for...

A weekend of the great outdoors

As I am preparing for my return to the real world tomorrow, I feel a strong sense of dread. As I won't have a weekend or free week for a long while! Instead of focusing on that.......I'm sharing a few snapshots from our awesome weekend! This weekend we were in Big Lake, AZ -- which is about 20 miles from the New Mexico border (just 5 1/2 hours from our house). (last weekend we were in Parker Canyon...which I will blog about another day) We camped from Friday-Monday, which was the perfect length of time. The temperatures were a great escape from hot Tucson. In fact...it was VERY cold at night. It was in the low 30's at night, 60's during the day. The trout fishing was incredible. Here's a few snapshots: Home Sweet Home for the weekend! Look at the giant tree I cut down!!! Wow!! (Okay, this was posed...) But...Ryan did teach me how to use a wood-saw! There were tons of dead/fallen trees lying around. So we cut all our firewood for the weekend! I felt very ...

Good things

I must say there are many good things I have to be happy about right now! I am in my psychiatric-mental health nursing rotation right now. I originally chose nursing as my major beause from the time I was like 12 I wanted to be a psych nurse. I love it so far. The clinicals are incredible. I am finding I am more organized and ahead of things in this class than I ever have been! Now, if I could be this motived with Critical Care and my Capstone this summer......:) Ryan and I got an entire day together yesterday!!!! This is rare. My spring break kind of sucked. He would leave at about 6 a.m., and not return until 8 p.m. The poor guy is spread too thin! So I cherish a day like yesterday! Which consisted of............. Spring Training baseball!!!!!! Diamondbacks vs. Oakland Atheletics. It was nearly a close-out. 10-1. We met his bosses wife at the game and she insisted we ditch our seats & sit in the seats in front of them that they had purchased . So we were FRONT ROW BEHIND HO...
