Hot sun, Bison, Weeping wounds, Luna bars, & trails

I thought my title would maybe be enticing. Okay, maybe minus the weeping wounds. I couldn't think of a catchy title. That's all I've got today. Those 5 items have consumed my life this week.

Hot sun
  • This morning when I was working in the garden at 7 am...it was already 87 degrees.
  • My car thermometer also read 91 degrees F @ 8 pm while I was leaving work last night.(sun was down, too)
  • My flowers are really angry. They are currently revolting.
  • Tomatoes like the hot sun. As do my very voluptuous summer squash plants.
  • My grass is pist off.
  • Abby is also not happy with this heat. 100+ degrees is only okay if you're in a lake...or perhaps a pool.
Bison
  • I came home to quite a treat last night. Our grocery store had a sale on Bison meat.
  • He looked up a recipe for "Gluten Free Bison Burgers". Which warmed my heart in more ways than one
  • They had: gouda cheese, wild rice, bison meat, garlic, spices....served with a garnish of this special BBQ mayo - on a bed of spinach.
  • Yum. I would share a more detailed recipe..but I didn't make it ;)
Weeping wounds
  • I realized that I have spent more time this week wrapping this yucky, cellulitis, weeping, leg wound this week than I spent with my husband.
  • I had the same 4 patients for four 13 hour shifts in a row.
  • You know how you sometimes get really sick of spending too much time with the same person? Yeahhhh..............
  • I'm excited to be hanging out with my husband at 6 pm tonight...and NOT wrapping a leg with kerlix
  • Speaking of wounds...since I've gone gluten free..............My leg rashes are gone! (Now I just have white scars..which will heal I hope)
Luna Bars
  • Luna GF protein bars have been my God-sent this week to give me energy. I am surprisingly impressed with them. Or maybe I just get so hungry that anything would taste good at that point.
  • I have become a total protein junky in the past few weeks. Hard boiled eggs & protein shakes have been my F.O.C. (food of choice)
Trails
  • I've been doing a lot of running around my house/neighborhood lately, and because of that - I have to run on the "non-existent-shoulder" of the road. Which means I've been running in rocks & sand.
  • This causes one's calves to burn like a scorched marshmallow on a stick.
  • I use marshmallow, b/c that's how my legs feel afterwards.
Well, I hope everyone has had a fantastic weekend.

I would like to make a loud shout-out to my sister Lisa, who took her CFA exam yesterday. She has studied extremely diligently and has had to work with a CRAZY schedule for the past 5 months. And now she's done with a big stepping-stone mountain in her carreer!! I am so proud of you, Lisa! You are awesome!!

Thanks for the shout out, Abby! I have definitely NEVER worked so hard on something in my life. It feels SO GOOD to have it behidn me. Now I can enjoy my life for a couple of months until I start studying for level 2 (hopefully I will be studying for level 2 and not retaking level 1!!)

Eeeks, that wound sound horrid.

that was so sweet of Ryan to make such a delicious meal for you! There are few things better than having a home cooked meal ready for you after a long day of work!

Bison burgers sound YUMMY!! And I'm proud of Ryan for being such a good husband and taking good care of you. :) You deserve it AND NEED IT, SOMETIMES!!!!!! I agree, one should be in the pool or a lake when it gets to be 100 degrees.

And I'm glad you finally got to spend time with your husband!!

Those Bison burgers sound so good! Isn't Bison meat the greatest? The steaks are great, too!
How did you get the leg wound? It sounds nasty! It's supposed to get to 90 tomorrow so I can commisurate with you, although it will be much more humid here that AZ! Whine, whine, whine, huh? We shouldn't say a word of complaint after all the cold temps we've had!

We love bison, especially the steaks. The burgers sound great. I will do some research.

I am glad you are experiencing improved health. Going gluten free is a challenge at first, isn't it?

Stay cool. We finally will have some weather this week warm enough for flowers!

Being busy must run in your family! I swear, even reading your and your sister's blogs makes me tired :)

What is your color?

Green My favorite color ever! I have to control myself to not purchase too many green things. If I had no control, my house would be green. My kitchen would be lime-themed. With greenery everywhere. My bathrooms would be green. My bedroom would be green. You would all feel nauseated-green after entering my home. (So I don't have a green-themed home) Many things I love are green, such as: Spinach (I eat it a minimum twice a day usually) My weding color was green. (clover green) Limes (I have at least one time a day) Grass. I love the feel of grass, especially since I see it so rarely in AZ (except in my neighborhood that has amazing landscapers with grass-galore) Palm trees. Any tree. Christmas trees. I love Christmas Green Beer. I think the green beer on St. Patty's Day tastes better. My favorite color of eyes. When I was in 9th grade, I so badly wanted to get green contacts. But they made me keep my brown eyes. Diet Mountain Dew (my guilty pleasure) Granny Smith...

A weekend of the great outdoors

As I am preparing for my return to the real world tomorrow, I feel a strong sense of dread. As I won't have a weekend or free week for a long while! Instead of focusing on that.......I'm sharing a few snapshots from our awesome weekend! This weekend we were in Big Lake, AZ -- which is about 20 miles from the New Mexico border (just 5 1/2 hours from our house). (last weekend we were in Parker Canyon...which I will blog about another day) We camped from Friday-Monday, which was the perfect length of time. The temperatures were a great escape from hot Tucson. In fact...it was VERY cold at night. It was in the low 30's at night, 60's during the day. The trout fishing was incredible. Here's a few snapshots: Home Sweet Home for the weekend! Look at the giant tree I cut down!!! Wow!! (Okay, this was posed...) But...Ryan did teach me how to use a wood-saw! There were tons of dead/fallen trees lying around. So we cut all our firewood for the weekend! I felt very ...

One Confused Lady

Yesterday morning was packed with a session of cross training.....rushed home to shower and get professional-looking....headed across town for an interview.....kicked butt at my interview...."bopped" over to our house to see the progress of the build......headed to the "design center" to sign more paperwork.... (Side note: I cannot get over just how much paperwork is involved in building a house. Holy Hannah. And we haven't even closed !!! Iy-yi-yi....Those lovely people in history who got law-suit-happy.....God bless 'em.) Yesterday was a good day! So here's a little humor for your Thursday. A little thought. A little depth.....( A little cynical rant ) Afterwards, I decided to head to one of my favorite places to peruse.... Target. But my experience at Target was far from fun, relaxing, or pleasant. Just confusing. Loud. Crazy. Despite many screaming children-temper tantrums.... Which is common and un-escapable. Although screaming chi...
