Christmas Rant

Okay, it's been a long time since I've done a "Rant". I've attempted typing up some rants actually, but end up deleting & not posting. I'm sometimes fear I may offend someone -- but please realize, this is supposed to be taken with a sense of humor.

I think 2 years ago I did a rant on Christmas shopping, and I figured I'd do a round 2 on "Christmas Rant". Now before you read this (because you'll probably think I'm a spiritless grinch after this post) -- I love the season. I wait anxiously for Black Friday so I can wear Christmas socks, listen to Frank Sinatra Christmas music on Pandora, and almost always carry a candy cane in my purse.

But there are a few things that don't bring me so much "Jolly Joy" during the holidays:

  • The crowded grocery store. I don't think I need to elaborate on this one.
  • The grocery store's holiday marketing. Keep the baking items in the baking aisle, please. When the chocolate chips & baking soda used to be in the baking ailse -- they are now in some special "Christmas Baking Display". So you learn, and go straight to the "Christmas Display" next time returning to the store...but the "Display" only has selected items. Just keep things in the aisle it's supposed to be, please.
  • Blow-up Christmas Decorations. We all love snowmen. We all love Santa. But do we really need to get a blow-up machine that is larger than a semi to truly display our love for Christmas?
  • The wife @ your husband's company Christmas party who didn't feel like putting an dress over her slip. So appears to be wearing lingerie. Christmas parties are typically a networking event - where you want to make a positive impression on others (even as the spouse). No one cares to see your cleavage, lady.
  • Jingle bells. We had a representative @ our hospital last week who had jingle bell earings & jingle bells on her name badge. Every time she moved  her bells rang. This really brought the "grinch" out in many of us. I'm all about the Christmas spirit, but really?
  • The awkwardness our media has with the word "Christmas". The crazies who proclaim they are offended by the "Christmas Tree". Really? An evergreen tree that has been around since the 1400's is suddenly offensive. It had never been such a problem until recent years.

Gotta say - I agree with you about everything you said here!

One of my biggest Christmas "rants" is how people just turn into crazies while in any parking lot, trying to find a spot. Nothing like the Christmas season to bring out the best in people...

It is shocking to me how our leaders want to remove Christmas from our country! What exactly are the Holidays about at this time of year? I feel like Charlie Brown - Good Grief! And God help us!
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Ha, I like your rants. It's not like you post them very often, so I wouldn't worry about it! :) You gotta say what annoys you from time to time!

I went grocery shopping last Friday and oh my word, I have never seen the store or liquor store so busy!! Seems so early for it to already be so busy!

I totally agree about the grocery store baking display! Now our Fry's is going through a remodel and I can't find a thing! The parking lot situation is the worst at Christmas time. Somehow "the season" brings out "the insanity"! lol

Your last rant made me laugh. I posted a similar rant on my blog, but from the opposite point of view: http://talkingthirty.com/archives/208 Just to be clear, I totally get what you are saying in your rant and I don't disagree necessarily. At the same time I also want to say "happy holidays" without getting attacked for that either.

Currently - May edition

I haven't blogged much - but the last time I did one of these, Maddy was 9 months old. It's really fun looking back on the things that were "stressors" to me at that time. Prior to that - my currently post was a pregnancy edition.  So here goes May 2022. Maddy is almost a 15-month old and summer has set ablaze here in Tucson.   Reading :  I really wish I had a better answer for this one, but I have not been the best about reading lately. The only book I'm reading is "How to talk to your kids so they'll listen and listen so they'll talk". It is really good. Most of the book is geared more to school-aged kids, in my opinion. But it highlights some great communication skills with children to help them trust you as a parent to be open and honest. Eating: All the smoothies. It has been getting really hot here - and every day when we get home from our stroller run I make a smoothie for Maddy with whole milk, Fage, and fruit - and then a smoothie for...

A weekend of the great outdoors

As I am preparing for my return to the real world tomorrow, I feel a strong sense of dread. As I won't have a weekend or free week for a long while! Instead of focusing on that.......I'm sharing a few snapshots from our awesome weekend! This weekend we were in Big Lake, AZ -- which is about 20 miles from the New Mexico border (just 5 1/2 hours from our house). (last weekend we were in Parker Canyon...which I will blog about another day) We camped from Friday-Monday, which was the perfect length of time. The temperatures were a great escape from hot Tucson. In fact...it was VERY cold at night. It was in the low 30's at night, 60's during the day. The trout fishing was incredible. Here's a few snapshots: Home Sweet Home for the weekend! Look at the giant tree I cut down!!! Wow!! (Okay, this was posed...) But...Ryan did teach me how to use a wood-saw! There were tons of dead/fallen trees lying around. So we cut all our firewood for the weekend! I felt very ...

Good things

I must say there are many good things I have to be happy about right now! I am in my psychiatric-mental health nursing rotation right now. I originally chose nursing as my major beause from the time I was like 12 I wanted to be a psych nurse. I love it so far. The clinicals are incredible. I am finding I am more organized and ahead of things in this class than I ever have been! Now, if I could be this motived with Critical Care and my Capstone this summer......:) Ryan and I got an entire day together yesterday!!!! This is rare. My spring break kind of sucked. He would leave at about 6 a.m., and not return until 8 p.m. The poor guy is spread too thin! So I cherish a day like yesterday! Which consisted of............. Spring Training baseball!!!!!! Diamondbacks vs. Oakland Atheletics. It was nearly a close-out. 10-1. We met his bosses wife at the game and she insisted we ditch our seats & sit in the seats in front of them that they had purchased . So we were FRONT ROW BEHIND HO...
