New Finds

I am so glad this work week is done. I'm not going to even start explaining, or this will turn into a ranty novel. All I will hint at, is I wish I had noise cancelling headphones while I'm working in my cubicle. And I am thankful that most of my work day is spent out on the floor interviewing patients, reviewing charts, and nagging doctors. (Yes, most of being a case manager involves nagging doctors. But I've become very talented at nagging in a manner that seems like I'm helping, instead of nagging.

Anyways.

I have found 3 new things this week that are wonderful. They are not related. But all amazing.

1.  Smoothies. I've found that I don't have time to eat breakfast in the mornings - because racing from my work out to the shower to work...doesn't leave me time to even eat. Maybe if I didn't do my hair and make-up. But then I look like I'm 15 years old. So I busted out our blender, and have made some of the most delicious concoctions every morning. Here are a few combo's I do:

  • Blackberries, spinach, 8 oz almond milk, 1 scoop of "Amplified Wheybolic Extreme 60" vanilla protein powder, handful of chia seeds.
  • Strawberries, 1 large kale leaf, 8 oz almond milk, 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder, chia.
  • Sliced peaches, sliced mango, spinach, almond milk, protein.
  • 8 oz almond milk, 1 spoonful of natural peanut butter butter, 1 scoop chocolate protein powder.
**A note on the protein powder - it sounds like some extreme, mass-building, 'roid-poppin', kind of protein. But it's not. It's just low on lactose (easier on the stomach), and one of the lower calorie protein powders.

2.  White beans and sauce. I'm cutting back on meat consumption. Mostly because I'm too lazy to deal with raw meat when Ryan's not here. It has little to do with health or animals. I am just tired of cooking for myself, and don't feel like touching raw meat...for myself.

So I take canelli beans, 1/2 can tomato sauce, 1 oz can tomato paste, much garlic, S & P.....and it goes great on salads, in wraps, over quinoa, over rice, in a pita. Many options. It's delicious!

3.  Albuterol. Long story short -- I haven't been breathing well since December. I finally got an albuterol rescue inhaler. I tried it the other night, and almost made myself pass out from hyperventilating. I was so excited and thrilled to be able to completely inhale & exhale!! People that think doing drugs is cool should try albuterol - now that is some good stuff!

What have you found new lately?

I finally found the blade for my bullet after having lost it since moving so I am going to maybe make some smoothies this month, too. If I am actually around and have a chance to get to the grocery store for fruit, that is! I used to have that as my meal after my run club workouts as it was one of the few things that sounded appealing after a hard workout.

I am all about the meatless meals, too. Meat is expensive and I find the stuff in the grocery stores totally disgusting. I'm all about dishes made with lentils or beans!

Those smoothies look so healthy and tasty, too! I think I would love the bean concoction but your Dad, NOT! He's still a meat man and I think he always will be. I do agree with Lisa that the meat in a grocery store is disgusting! I'm sure they paint red food coloring on the beef or something like that! Ugh!
And I'm especially happy that you have found some relief for your breathing problem! AWESOME!

Currently - May edition

I haven't blogged much - but the last time I did one of these, Maddy was 9 months old. It's really fun looking back on the things that were "stressors" to me at that time. Prior to that - my currently post was a pregnancy edition.  So here goes May 2022. Maddy is almost a 15-month old and summer has set ablaze here in Tucson.   Reading :  I really wish I had a better answer for this one, but I have not been the best about reading lately. The only book I'm reading is "How to talk to your kids so they'll listen and listen so they'll talk". It is really good. Most of the book is geared more to school-aged kids, in my opinion. But it highlights some great communication skills with children to help them trust you as a parent to be open and honest. Eating: All the smoothies. It has been getting really hot here - and every day when we get home from our stroller run I make a smoothie for Maddy with whole milk, Fage, and fruit - and then a smoothie for...

A weekend of the great outdoors

As I am preparing for my return to the real world tomorrow, I feel a strong sense of dread. As I won't have a weekend or free week for a long while! Instead of focusing on that.......I'm sharing a few snapshots from our awesome weekend! This weekend we were in Big Lake, AZ -- which is about 20 miles from the New Mexico border (just 5 1/2 hours from our house). (last weekend we were in Parker Canyon...which I will blog about another day) We camped from Friday-Monday, which was the perfect length of time. The temperatures were a great escape from hot Tucson. In fact...it was VERY cold at night. It was in the low 30's at night, 60's during the day. The trout fishing was incredible. Here's a few snapshots: Home Sweet Home for the weekend! Look at the giant tree I cut down!!! Wow!! (Okay, this was posed...) But...Ryan did teach me how to use a wood-saw! There were tons of dead/fallen trees lying around. So we cut all our firewood for the weekend! I felt very ...

One Confused Lady

Yesterday morning was packed with a session of cross training.....rushed home to shower and get professional-looking....headed across town for an interview.....kicked butt at my interview...."bopped" over to our house to see the progress of the build......headed to the "design center" to sign more paperwork.... (Side note: I cannot get over just how much paperwork is involved in building a house. Holy Hannah. And we haven't even closed !!! Iy-yi-yi....Those lovely people in history who got law-suit-happy.....God bless 'em.) Yesterday was a good day! So here's a little humor for your Thursday. A little thought. A little depth.....( A little cynical rant ) Afterwards, I decided to head to one of my favorite places to peruse.... Target. But my experience at Target was far from fun, relaxing, or pleasant. Just confusing. Loud. Crazy. Despite many screaming children-temper tantrums.... Which is common and un-escapable. Although screaming chi...
