11 Questions

I stole this one from my sister Lisa. These are always fun! They are also a good distraction when I just don't know what to blog about....;)

1.   What is the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?

Stumble into the bathroom, put on my contacts, get dressed in my workout clothes that I lay out the night before. If I'm lifting weights, biking, or swimming - I eat a piece of toast with peanut/almond butter. If I'm running, I chug a big glass of water!

2. What do you eat for breakfast?

Whole wheat toast with peanut butter or almond butter for a pre or post-work out.
Before leaving for work I will make a smoothie with berries, spinach, protein powder, flax seeds, and almond milk.
3. What’s your go-to weeknight meal?

Fish tacos. We always have tilapia in the freezer - and it takes 10 minutes to cook.

I season and cook the fish with peppers and onions. Serve it on a tortilla with spinach, greet yogurt, and salsa. (If I have cabbage, I'll chop up cabbage and make a slaw to serve with it)

4. Do you do any kind of journaling or memory keeping?

My blog is definitely like a journal for me. I also have a book my sister gave me called "The 5 Year Memory Book". I write down my favorite thing from each day in it!

5. How do you fix your coffee, or do you prefer tea (or neither)?

Depends on my mood. I either drink it black (which is a habit I started on our backpacking trip). Or I will put some Coffee-mate sugar free vanilla coffee creamer in it. If I'm drinking it iced, I definitely need it black! (I know, weird quirks)

6. What’s the last good book you read?

The Light Between Oceans. I have a hard time giving the synopsis of this book without giving away too much. But it's really good!
7. If you had a day all to yourself with no schedule, how would you spend it?
(Let me also add that this "no-schedule day" would not be in June with 110-degree temps!)

I'd go for a long trail run at Sabino Canyon, and then stop at Starbucks for Venti iced coffee.
Then I'd shower up, make a lunch of caprese and crackers, and have a picnic at a park with Ryan. After our picnic, we'd play catch or Frisbee, then maybe do a little shopping, stop at Sprouts and get some seafood, and cook a delicious grilled dinner on the patio with a bottle of wine!
Star gaze in our hot tub.

8. What are three things on your life list?
#1 Backpack the Kalalua Trail in Kauai, Hawaii. (It's a hike through the mountains to a private island one can only get to by hiking.) It's listed as one of the Top 10 Most Dangerous Hikes by Adventure magazine. We plan on doing it summer of 2015!
#2 Use my nursing experience to do some type of mission work - be it in Africa, India, or even deploy to a national disaster without our own country (through a group called DMAT that triages/treated people during Hurricane Katrina, 911, ect)
#3 Travel Italy. (must see Florence, Rome, and Venice)

9. When you really need to relax or de-stress, where do you go and what do you do?

Run or swim alone. I also distress well with a glass of wine, and a cutting board of ingredients to make a new recipe!

10. What’s on your nightstand?

"The 5 Year Memory Book", my glasses, my Bible, an incense burner (I like to burn incense to distress too...)
11. What’s the last thing you do before you go to sleep?

Brush my teeth. I have to go to sleep with a fresh taste in my mouth. (I'm narcotic about tooth brushing....). Triple check my alarm clock. Kiss my husband good night, and always say "I'm so excited for tomorrow". (even if I'm not excited, if you say it - you believe it, right?!)

Your turn! Answer at least 2!

I love #11! I will have to try that as I usually say, "Bed sure feels good!"
I enjoy reading these types of blogs as it is fun to learn what you are doing and thinking!

The 5 yr book sounds really neat. I have a quotable kid book for Elle but I should get a book like that for myself. Love that your life goals are about adventure and experiencing life.
I am glad you are getting some use out of the 5 year memory book! I have one as well but I fell off the wagon of using it so need to get back to that.

It was fun to read your list of answers! I always learn a little something when I read things like this.

And now i am craving fish tacos at 6:36 am. I need to make those for Phil and I soon.

I had fish tacos this past weekend at Stella's and they were so good! They used talapia in theirs, too, with a wonderful black bean & corn salsa! Mmmm Mmmm!

What is your color?

Green My favorite color ever! I have to control myself to not purchase too many green things. If I had no control, my house would be green. My kitchen would be lime-themed. With greenery everywhere. My bathrooms would be green. My bedroom would be green. You would all feel nauseated-green after entering my home. (So I don't have a green-themed home) Many things I love are green, such as: Spinach (I eat it a minimum twice a day usually) My weding color was green. (clover green) Limes (I have at least one time a day) Grass. I love the feel of grass, especially since I see it so rarely in AZ (except in my neighborhood that has amazing landscapers with grass-galore) Palm trees. Any tree. Christmas trees. I love Christmas Green Beer. I think the green beer on St. Patty's Day tastes better. My favorite color of eyes. When I was in 9th grade, I so badly wanted to get green contacts. But they made me keep my brown eyes. Diet Mountain Dew (my guilty pleasure) Granny Smith

Currently - May edition

I haven't blogged much - but the last time I did one of these, Maddy was 9 months old. It's really fun looking back on the things that were "stressors" to me at that time. Prior to that - my currently post was a pregnancy edition.  So here goes May 2022. Maddy is almost a 15-month old and summer has set ablaze here in Tucson.   Reading :  I really wish I had a better answer for this one, but I have not been the best about reading lately. The only book I'm reading is "How to talk to your kids so they'll listen and listen so they'll talk". It is really good. Most of the book is geared more to school-aged kids, in my opinion. But it highlights some great communication skills with children to help them trust you as a parent to be open and honest. Eating: All the smoothies. It has been getting really hot here - and every day when we get home from our stroller run I make a smoothie for Maddy with whole milk, Fage, and fruit - and then a smoothie for

8 Months

Well, I missed month 1-8. But it is never too late to begin, right? Here is a recap of Maddy at 8 months. (I'm totally stealing this idea from my sister, Lisa. I thought it was so neat that she recaps her son's favorites and happenings every month)   How am I sleeping? Better than I was - but not as good as my peers. It also depends on if I'm teething. Last week, her 2nd tooth was poking through - so she was awake 3 times.  No matter how much I let her cry it out, I cannot seem to cut down her feedings. When I go in there - she is literally pulling at my shirt with her mouth wide open. So clearly she's hungry.  She eats 2 times/night and luckily goes right back to sleep. It is what it is. What am I eating? While we have had breastfeeding and bottle refusal struggles - I am so glad that taking to food as been relatively smooth. We are doing baby led weaning, and Maddy really enjoys most every food I've given her.  Her favorite foods are scrambled eggs, apples, and c
