If we were having happy hour

How did a month just fly by like that since I last blogged?

Instead of a "Currently" update -- which is my "standard" when I haven't blogged in awhile. I'm going to switch it up and do a "If we were having happy hour" post. Because I kind of miss having happy hour with my girlfriends back in AZ! Or our 5 am runs. I never realized how much "head clearing" all that provided me with ;)

If we were having happy hour I'd tell you.....

  • That I am being faced with some challenges at work right now. And it's weighing on me a lot! I am focusing on the good, and trying to not the stress/pressure bring me down. I'm also having to make some tough decisions. I'd probably vent a little - but I watch my clock to assure I don't spend too much time ranting away about my internal struggle ;)
If we were having happy hour I'd tell you....
  • How much I'm enjoying the amount of time we are getting with my family. I've spent more time with my family these past few months than I have in 10 years, and it has been incredible. It's going to make leaving hard! But again - I'm taking what I can get, and focusing on the positive.
If we were having happy hour I'd...
  • Talk about my run training. We have found a gym/athletic training center here that focuses on power/agility training and I want to take it home with me. But it's a giant dome built around a football field - so I cannot pack that in my luggage back to AZ ;)
  • I'd tell you how much I am really enjoying my runs lately - and soaking up the cooler weather temperatures. As in AZ it is 85-115 degrees F daily right now. No thank you...
If we were having happy hour I'd tell you...
  • About your trip to Peru we are currently in the planning stages for.
  • How over-the-moon excited I am to hike the Inca Trail to Macchu Picchu
  • That we plan on spending 4 days in the Amazon rainforest doing excursions.
  • That we have been watching a lot of Planet Earth and PBS to get amped about our trip :D
If we were having happy hour I'd ask for advice on....
  • Skin issues! I always have taken pride in having good skin, and that has NOT been the case lately.
  • I have acne for the 1st time ever in my life.
  • I've developed some rash on my stomach, back, arms that comes and goes periodically. I'm starting to wonder if it's some soap or laundry detergent I'm using? But it's pretty annoying. Ryan and I only sleep in the same bed a few nights / week now because he is on night shift, and I feel so bad for him because I can't sit still in bed because I'm so uncomfortable.
  • I'm about ready to set up an appointment with a dermatologist if this doesn't improve soon!

Oh, dear! I hope the laundry detergent you are using at the lake isn't causing the rash! That is miserable. Some members of our family have such skin issues!
I know that you are stressed at work, and I hope things improve soon, as that makes one wish the days away and life is too short for that!
Your trip plans sound exciting and have seen some beautiful pictures of that area!

I am so thankful for you two being near this summer and enjoy every minute together. It is also wonderful for all the help you both of provided. I can't even find words to convey how much I appreciate everything you have done and are doing this weekend with the 4th of July preparations!
Yea! A post from you! I miss your posts but know that you are focusing on enjoying time in the midwest right now! You have gotten more family time than I have in the last 10 years, too. Ha. I am glad you are getting so much time with family, though. It will be hard to go back but luckily you'll see us girls in January!! :)

I hope you figure out your skin issues. That is awful to deal with and I can so relate as my acne was the worst in my last 20s/early 30s. For me, I had to go on a couple of medications. I also spend more on skin care products than I did in the past. I really love the Arbonne products. My skin looks so much better since i've started using them. They are not cheap, but it's a good investment in my skin. I think starting by seeing a derm would be a good first step. Did you notice any improvement when you gave up dairy (I think you have tried that?) That made the biggest difference for me. I stopped eating it for about a year and really really noticed a difference.

I agree with Lisa, I use Arbonne products on my skin. I use the "calm" line and LOVE it. I have never had too many skin issues, but I find the nicer, higher quality (more expensive) products make my skin look soooo much better!!

Peru is AMAZING. Cannot wait to follow this adventure! Machu Picchu and Peru is on my bucket list for sure.

What is your color?

Green My favorite color ever! I have to control myself to not purchase too many green things. If I had no control, my house would be green. My kitchen would be lime-themed. With greenery everywhere. My bathrooms would be green. My bedroom would be green. You would all feel nauseated-green after entering my home. (So I don't have a green-themed home) Many things I love are green, such as: Spinach (I eat it a minimum twice a day usually) My weding color was green. (clover green) Limes (I have at least one time a day) Grass. I love the feel of grass, especially since I see it so rarely in AZ (except in my neighborhood that has amazing landscapers with grass-galore) Palm trees. Any tree. Christmas trees. I love Christmas Green Beer. I think the green beer on St. Patty's Day tastes better. My favorite color of eyes. When I was in 9th grade, I so badly wanted to get green contacts. But they made me keep my brown eyes. Diet Mountain Dew (my guilty pleasure) Granny Smith

8 Months

Well, I missed month 1-8. But it is never too late to begin, right? Here is a recap of Maddy at 8 months. (I'm totally stealing this idea from my sister, Lisa. I thought it was so neat that she recaps her son's favorites and happenings every month)   How am I sleeping? Better than I was - but not as good as my peers. It also depends on if I'm teething. Last week, her 2nd tooth was poking through - so she was awake 3 times.  No matter how much I let her cry it out, I cannot seem to cut down her feedings. When I go in there - she is literally pulling at my shirt with her mouth wide open. So clearly she's hungry.  She eats 2 times/night and luckily goes right back to sleep. It is what it is. What am I eating? While we have had breastfeeding and bottle refusal struggles - I am so glad that taking to food as been relatively smooth. We are doing baby led weaning, and Maddy really enjoys most every food I've given her.  Her favorite foods are scrambled eggs, apples, and c

Currently - May edition

I haven't blogged much - but the last time I did one of these, Maddy was 9 months old. It's really fun looking back on the things that were "stressors" to me at that time. Prior to that - my currently post was a pregnancy edition.  So here goes May 2022. Maddy is almost a 15-month old and summer has set ablaze here in Tucson.   Reading :  I really wish I had a better answer for this one, but I have not been the best about reading lately. The only book I'm reading is "How to talk to your kids so they'll listen and listen so they'll talk". It is really good. Most of the book is geared more to school-aged kids, in my opinion. But it highlights some great communication skills with children to help them trust you as a parent to be open and honest. Eating: All the smoothies. It has been getting really hot here - and every day when we get home from our stroller run I make a smoothie for Maddy with whole milk, Fage, and fruit - and then a smoothie for
