Currently

I went through my old posts - and it was funny seeing the last time I did this in February, I started it off by saying "This is my last Currently post before being a Mom". Well...here I am. A Mom.

It's funny how much I've changed since February 12, 2021 :)

 Reading

The Wife Between Us. It's a psychological thriller and it's been a nice and easy read. I actually had to put it down the other night because the foreshadowing was getting too scary for me.

Thinking: About some new "career"-ish endeavors. I had some significant struggles with breastfeeding the 1st 3 months of motherhood. Recently a friend sent her niece my way who was struggling, and I was actually able to help her out and it was very rewarding. I'm looking into becoming a La Leche League advocate - which is a volunteer role.

I could take things a step further eventually, and become a lactation consultant (maybe once our children are older and school aged). So for now...this volunteer role would be a nice foot in the door. And the time commitment is pretty minimal. It would also help me to see if I actually like this kind of work as much as I think I would...

Feeling: Healthy again. Our whole family just went through a nasty cold virus. I think I had it the worst, as I ended up on prednisone and antibiotics - as it was in my chest. I'm so elated we are all feeling better!!

Anticipating: The next few days. We close on a cabin on Mount Lemmon tomorrow. This has been a stretch dream of ours for a long time - and we never thought it would become a reality this soon. But we have had a really successful year in our real estate business, so this is our reward.

Working:  Trying to work about 10 hours/week in my nursing quality job which feels pretty manageable. I just try to log hours when Maddy sleeps, and I'll throw an hour in the evenings every once in awhile.

We are also doing some planning for 2022 with the business. This is the 1st time in several months where we haven't been either acquiring a new property or trying to fill a property -- but we do have some meetings with potential investors coming up. It has been nice to have a little break -as I am the one doing most of the phone answering, marketing, etc when we acquire a new home!

Grateful: That we have had nearly a record breaking year of rainfall. We were in such a severe drought - and this monsoon season helped restore our aquifers!

Watching:  Our tv broke about 1 month ago (maybe more than that). So I've only watched something here and there in our office. While I'm not a big tv watcher, I am looking forward to getting our tv back in the living room.

Wishing: I can get another night feeding cut out this month. We are down to 2 feedings/night and we were starting to make some good progress but then Maddy got sick and then started teething. We have tried several verious of cry-it-out...and Maddy is so stubborn she will scream relentlessly for 2 hours (that was her record...) I don't have it in me to put up with that every time her schedule gets thrown off so am trying a gentle approach...

The LLL role sounds really cool and a good way to test out whether you'd want to be coming an LC! I think that would be really rewarding.

I really don't know how you do it all, though! FT SAHM, 10 hours of nursing work, running, LLL volunteering, real estate - and then keeping up a house and garden. That is A LOT!!! On top of sleep deprivation!!

So exciting about the Mount Lemmon property, though!! That will be a wonderful oasis for you guys!

I’m really slow here, but we can’t wait to see the Lemmon house! It looks so relaxing and you’ll appreciate the cooler temps in the summer months.
The LL job sounds right up your alley, so will be interested to see what you decide. You have a busy lifestyle, that’s for sure!

One Confused Lady

Yesterday morning was packed with a session of cross training.....rushed home to shower and get professional-looking....headed across town for an interview.....kicked butt at my interview...."bopped" over to our house to see the progress of the build......headed to the "design center" to sign more paperwork.... (Side note: I cannot get over just how much paperwork is involved in building a house. Holy Hannah. And we haven't even closed !!! Iy-yi-yi....Those lovely people in history who got law-suit-happy.....God bless 'em.) Yesterday was a good day! So here's a little humor for your Thursday. A little thought. A little depth.....( A little cynical rant ) Afterwards, I decided to head to one of my favorite places to peruse.... Target. But my experience at Target was far from fun, relaxing, or pleasant. Just confusing. Loud. Crazy. Despite many screaming children-temper tantrums.... Which is common and un-escapable. Although screaming chi...

A weekend of the great outdoors

As I am preparing for my return to the real world tomorrow, I feel a strong sense of dread. As I won't have a weekend or free week for a long while! Instead of focusing on that.......I'm sharing a few snapshots from our awesome weekend! This weekend we were in Big Lake, AZ -- which is about 20 miles from the New Mexico border (just 5 1/2 hours from our house). (last weekend we were in Parker Canyon...which I will blog about another day) We camped from Friday-Monday, which was the perfect length of time. The temperatures were a great escape from hot Tucson. In fact...it was VERY cold at night. It was in the low 30's at night, 60's during the day. The trout fishing was incredible. Here's a few snapshots: Home Sweet Home for the weekend! Look at the giant tree I cut down!!! Wow!! (Okay, this was posed...) But...Ryan did teach me how to use a wood-saw! There were tons of dead/fallen trees lying around. So we cut all our firewood for the weekend! I felt very ...

Winter Storm hits the desert?!

Happy New Years Eve to all. I hope everyone is able to celebrate with family, friends, or loved ones tonight! And -- I hope everyone has a safe evening!! Be careful out there! We are finally experiencing some "weather" here in Tucson. I use "quotation marks"...because this "weather" the Tucsonan's are FLIPPING OUT over is just a "chilly October Day" in North Dakota (where I came from) Yesterday morning...I was getting off work. I could hear the wind blowing, and the rain falling throughout the night. There were moments where...I kind of want to crawl into one of the hospital beds and take a snooze. When 7:30 am rolled around, I was very anxious to go home after 3 nights on. I was ready to BOLT out the door.... ...when I was stopped by an oncoming shift coworker, who stated, "Abby, maybe you should stick around until the weather clears up. It's pretty bad out there...." FEeling concerned, I asked, "Really? Are th...
