ABC

We are home from a wonderful, extended-weekend-getaway to Omaha. It was filled with family, relaxations, and greatness. I will do a more detailed recap on it soon! In the meantime, I'm doing this ABC bit that I stole from my cousin 's blog! Also, no -- I did not get switched to days. Trust me, I would've told the entire world and screamed it from roof-tops if I did. A. Age: 22, but that will change on Sunday. B. Bed size: King C. Chore you dislike: Cleaning the shower - especially dealing with hard-water stains. Lime away=ouch D. Dogs: Really really really really really dislike. Really dislike. Sorry. I could do a post in itself about my dislike for canines. E. Essential start to your day: Bowl of oatmeal/or cereal with bananas. Or fruit F. Favorite color: Greeen G. Gold or silver: Definitely silver. H. Height: 5'4'' - Sometimes I lie & say 5'5''. Some people lie about their weight, age, haircolor...I lie about my height. I...

Dear Life, Please Slow Down !

Life is a whirlwind! Ryan & I have finally had the epiphany that..... We are CONSTANTLY saying "When things slow down....we'll do ________". Then ____ never occurs. Because things never slow down. I've realized this is life - You just have to do what you can when you can! And love every second of it! This week has been nuts. Ryan has been putting 14 hour days in at work. My unit has been crazy. Apparently it's national "Detox off Alcohol" week?!?! I've had police on my floor! I've had patients try to hit me! And let me remind you..this is just a telemetry (cardiac) floor. No psych...not an ED. But to be honest..I love this stuff. My heart is in the craziness! Tomorrow morning we leave for a trip. We are staying at the W Scottsdale which is a gorgeous resort in Scottsdale, AZ and then fly out to Nebraska. Ryan's sister had a baby back in October -- and sweet baby Claire is being baptized! I'm very excited to see Ryan's fa...

Ten on Tuesday!

1. Any vacations you are looking forward to this summer? A trip to Minnesota sometime either June or July to my family's lake cabin to do some fishing, wakeboarding, and get some quality family time in!! Can't wait! :) 2. What is your favorite article of summer clothing (shoes are included)? Swimming suit, flip flops to prevent the AZ concrete for giving you 3rd degree burns on the soles of your feet! Or....sundresses with some cute flats I suppose. (right now I'm dreading summer clothing for some reason. I just want hide in sweaters & jeans) 3. What is your favorite summer drink (alcoholic or non)? Fresh squeezed lemonade with a little sprite to make it bubble! Or....a cold, frosty beer. Hefeweizen. 4. Do you tan or burn? Tan. But my Native American blood makes my tan come out a little reddish. 5. Any goals you are working toward this summer? To have a beautiful, ever-producing, succulent garden/backyard! 6. What is your favorite summertime food? Stra...

Hearts

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!! I hope you are all enjoying your day......................... I'm going to be honest with you -- I was kinda grumpy about Valentine's Day this year. I told my husband "Don't waste your time getting anything for me this year or trying to be romantic...I have to work Sunday, Monday, & Tuesday so it's not worth it. Let's just pretend Vday isn't happening this year, okay? It will be easier this way" He concurred. Instead of spending Vday having a romantic time with my husband,....... I will be spending it hanging antibiotics, bathing old people, doing assessments, assisting people while they vomit, & running around like a chicken with my head-cut-off at work. How romantic.!!! Well, I got home from work this morning -- walked into our kitchen, flipped on the lights to find a bouquet of beautiful roses and a heart-felt, hand-written love-note :-) Okay, maybe Valentine's Day isn't SO bad. ;) I...

Ten on Tuesday!

1. What’s your favorite kind of donut? I really don't like donuts. At all. They make my mouth dry. And it's just bread...with sugar...It's just one of those things that do not excite me. 2. Do you use the snooze button? Yes. In fact, we purposely set alarms 10 minutes early in this house to allow a "gradual" wake up. I don't like just jumping right out of bed. 3. Do you write in cursive, print, or a combination of the two? Combination of the 2 - It depends on my mood. 4. Tell us a joke. Okay, I usually ruin jokes, because I blurt out the punch line too early. But being I'm typing this......it should go okay: It's Superbowl 45 - Packers vs. Steelers at Dallas stadium. And this older man is sitting 4th row from the front at the 50th yard-line. There is an empty seat next to him. A man behind him proclaims "Oh my GOD!! An Empty seat? Why an empty seat?!?! You've got the best seats in this house! This is ludicrous! What a waste! The o...

A Few Things

First of all, I caved. I watched the Superbowl. I never watched this before I met my husband. But, every year -- we end up going to a party and having a fun time. So it works out well. I whipped up a super-American-football-ish dip in record time. For I found out about the party 10 minutes before leaving the house! He forgot to mention it to me. It happens :) Good thing I'm flexible I know everyone hated the half-time show. But I think this was much better than Bruce Springsteen & The Who the previous years. Yes, I like The Who...but not for Superbowl. I like "The Who" on my i-pod. I'd rather see Janet Jackson's boob than watch The Who (who are clearly past their prime....). I will also be honest & say I like the Black Eyed Peas. A lot. Especially Fergie. If i look like her at 36, I will be a happy woman. I started a boxing class today - it went surprisingly well. I miss boxing - and hope to attend this more. It brings out the ALMOST non-existent tou...

The Heart Truth

Today is National Wear Red Day.  It's the day to remind us that Heart Disease is not just a killer of men. It equally effects women!  Heart Disease is the #1 Killer of us women! As many of you know....We used to only associate heart disease with men. We call the Left Main Artery the "Widow Maker" in reference to the fact it gets blocked in men, in creates women-widow's after major myocardial infarctions (heart attacks)! However, after my experience of working on a cardiac floor -- I have more female patients receiving cardiology work-ups than men! Now, we could play devil's advocate, look at statistics, etc -- and say that "Yes, but, women tend to be more proactive about going in and attacking their health than men" -- which is true...but.....This is my statement to get women to think about their hearts! ;) I had to do a post on this -- becauseI heart the heart! I did my senior capstone on heart disease (Percutaneous Coronary Intervention/Cardiac C...
