What a birthday!

For a long time...I really didn't like birthdays. Here's a little birthday history:

High school sucked. So all my birthdays were lame and depressing.

In fact, the first birthday that I spent with Ryan...the day's prior I remember him saying "What do you want to do for your birthday??!! Are you excited? It's coming up." And I remember responding saying, "I will spending digging in a cadaver in anatomy lab. It'll be a good reminder that I'm one year closer to death. Birthdays are over-rated."

Yep! That was me! He changed my negativity towards birthday's though, and the past 3 years have been pretty good ones!

And last Saturday, February 27, I had a wonderful birthday! Here's how it went:

  • Thursday it began: I had 2 final tests. Ryan took me out to dinner to celebrate at my favorite Brewery. I got to have my favorite Rasberry Blonde.
  • Friday evening we went to Ryan's Dad & Step-Mom's house for dinner. His sister is in town for the weekend! So it was a double bonus. They served a meal of my favorite foods: crab legs, shrimp, mussels, scallops, potatoes, asparagus, and edamame! Dessert was Strawberry shortcake ice cream and chocolate-covered strawberries!
  • Saturday morning we "slept in" .....woke up at the usual 6:30 a.m.
    • Ryan wouldn't let me leave the bedroom, and said "I'll tell you when you can come out"
    • So I sat in the room for a few seconds, and within seconds had the chlorox wipes out and was scrubbing the sinks in our bathroom.
    • Yep. I have a problem!
  • When I came out of the room on the kitchen island was:
    • My present
    • 12 pack of Diet Mountain Dew
    • Crystal Light Immunity & Energy packets
    • Ice Breakers Sours
    • He always know the way to my heart!
  • I then opened presents where I got:
    • A Sportline Heart Rate Monitor from Ryan (Please excuse how scary I looked...I just woke up, okay?!)

    • From my Mom and Dad: I got a plethora of goodness-filled kitchen tools! Including a Cuisinart coffee bean grinder and Caribou beans! Mmmmmmmm!!! Also a Kohl's gift card!
  • I then headed out for a nice run -- my birthday present to myself! Seven miles through the pecan fields on a cool, foggy morning = heavenly!
  • I received phone calls from all my siblings -- who I miss dearly! I got to talk to my nephews -- (I am having nephew-withdrawals! I miss those little guys so much!!) Even my Dad, who was fishing out in the ice house, gave me a call. What a guy! :)
  • We then got ready and took a little road trip up to Phoenix to see Lisa!
  • The WHOLE 1 1/2 hour drive.....Ryan let me listen to whatever type of music I wanted! And he put up with my singing the whole drive.
  • Upon arrival, I was gifted from Lisa a new Anthropologie apron, "The Sunflower (amazing book), and some Regina Specktor cds! Thank you Lisa!
  • We were hosted by Lisa's friends Heidi & Chris. And being the wonderful hosts they are - we had a champagne toast to my birthday!
  • Dinner was at a wonderful mexican restaurant in Chandler, AZ! Great margaritas and wonderful food!
  • After dinner, we played a game called "Loaded Questions". Very fun! Highly recommended it!
  • The evening was full of good conversation, wonderful food, and tons of laughter! When Lisa & I get together, we are able to recall almost-forgotten stories of our past that bring up roaring laughter! Laughter is so good for the soul!
  •  Here are some pictures from the evening! Thank you to all who made it so great!

I'm so glad we got to celebrate your birthday together. Do you remember the year I came home from college and surprised you on your birthday? It must have been my freshman or sophomore year?

I had so much fun with you! Glad you had a great birthday. The story telling was def my fave part of the night. I am still smiling thinking about the stories we told! :)

What is your color?

Green My favorite color ever! I have to control myself to not purchase too many green things. If I had no control, my house would be green. My kitchen would be lime-themed. With greenery everywhere. My bathrooms would be green. My bedroom would be green. You would all feel nauseated-green after entering my home. (So I don't have a green-themed home) Many things I love are green, such as: Spinach (I eat it a minimum twice a day usually) My weding color was green. (clover green) Limes (I have at least one time a day) Grass. I love the feel of grass, especially since I see it so rarely in AZ (except in my neighborhood that has amazing landscapers with grass-galore) Palm trees. Any tree. Christmas trees. I love Christmas Green Beer. I think the green beer on St. Patty's Day tastes better. My favorite color of eyes. When I was in 9th grade, I so badly wanted to get green contacts. But they made me keep my brown eyes. Diet Mountain Dew (my guilty pleasure) Granny Smith...

A weekend of the great outdoors

As I am preparing for my return to the real world tomorrow, I feel a strong sense of dread. As I won't have a weekend or free week for a long while! Instead of focusing on that.......I'm sharing a few snapshots from our awesome weekend! This weekend we were in Big Lake, AZ -- which is about 20 miles from the New Mexico border (just 5 1/2 hours from our house). (last weekend we were in Parker Canyon...which I will blog about another day) We camped from Friday-Monday, which was the perfect length of time. The temperatures were a great escape from hot Tucson. In fact...it was VERY cold at night. It was in the low 30's at night, 60's during the day. The trout fishing was incredible. Here's a few snapshots: Home Sweet Home for the weekend! Look at the giant tree I cut down!!! Wow!! (Okay, this was posed...) But...Ryan did teach me how to use a wood-saw! There were tons of dead/fallen trees lying around. So we cut all our firewood for the weekend! I felt very ...

One Confused Lady

Yesterday morning was packed with a session of cross training.....rushed home to shower and get professional-looking....headed across town for an interview.....kicked butt at my interview...."bopped" over to our house to see the progress of the build......headed to the "design center" to sign more paperwork.... (Side note: I cannot get over just how much paperwork is involved in building a house. Holy Hannah. And we haven't even closed !!! Iy-yi-yi....Those lovely people in history who got law-suit-happy.....God bless 'em.) Yesterday was a good day! So here's a little humor for your Thursday. A little thought. A little depth.....( A little cynical rant ) Afterwards, I decided to head to one of my favorite places to peruse.... Target. But my experience at Target was far from fun, relaxing, or pleasant. Just confusing. Loud. Crazy. Despite many screaming children-temper tantrums.... Which is common and un-escapable. Although screaming chi...
