Ten on Tuesday

1. What is your favorite breakfast pastry?

To be honest...I'm not a big pastry fan. Especially if it has any filling in it -yyyyuck! I freak out if I bite into something and some mound of "goo" comes squirting out of it.

But if I'm going to have something, it would be monkey bread.

2. Were you ever in a Thanksgiving or Christmas play?
Oh jeez. PTSD here. When I was in ?1st? grade (something like that) - our church did the annyual Christmas Nativity play for the Children's mass.

ALL the little girls in my class got to be angels. Pretty white dresses. Wings. Their mom's probably curled their hair.

They had me dress as....I don't even KNOW what I was??!! I wore an all-black cloak. With a hood. Maybe I was a sheppard? I felt like the fricking grim-reaper. On Christmas. Me and one other girl had to do this. It was purely devastating. My teacher must not have liked me very much. :-(
3. What is your favorite clothing accessory?
Definitely scarves! I also like belts - but not for the "fashion" reason...I like those for their neccessity in keeping my pants on my waist....I cannot wear jeans without one.
4. What is your favorite item of clothing?
Sweaters! I wish we could wear them year-round! And work-out shorts.

5. What is your favorite color and why?
Green - and I guess I've never thought of a profound reason as to why I enjoy this color. I think because it reminds me of "life" (grass, trees)
6. What is your favorite type of Christmas cookie?
Gingerbread. They have to be soft, though! There is a belief on molasses/gingerbread cookies that they should be crispy. Not in my kitchen.

Gingerbread cookies must be soft, with lots of cinnamon-red-hots on them, and the cookie NEEDS to be personified with a face, buttons, and clothing.
7. What is your favorite scent (food, perfume/lotion)
Cinnamon, cloves, vanilla, fresh-brewed coffee, Chlorox, a freshly-bloomed lilac tree, fresh-baked bread.

8. What is your favorite household cleaner?
Pinesol. It's kind of ridiculous how much of this stuff I go through in a month.
9. When you were a kid what did you want to be when you grew up? And what did you actually grow up to be?
I went through a long "architect" phase. Very random.

Then it was music teacher, nurse, music teacher, Occupational therapist, nurse (in that order).

10. What is the last song or album you bought?
It has been years since I've bought an album or song!! I honestly can't remember the last one I bought!

Poor thing! That Christmas play situation was terrible! Were there not enough boys to play shepherds?

When Sophia was a month old, she played Baby Jesus in the Nativity play. The other Sunday school teacher had taken over the casting and directing for the play as I had been recovering from my c-section. Alexa was NOT happy (and suffers from PTSD about it) to be the "star holder", while the other teacher's daughter got to be Mary and held Baby Jesus. Those plays can be TRAUMATIC!

I DO remember that Christmas "event" and how traumatic it was for you. And like Lora said, it can affect one for a lifetime! I guess it teaches one a lesson in humility, but when you are little, it is such a hard lesson to learn. Believe me, it is hard on parents, also, and we cry inside when our children are in pain.

Now, what was that teacher even thinking? Wouldn't you like to ask?

I remember wanting to be "Mother Mary" in the Christmas play at school in first grade. Instead, I was merely one of the "adorers" at the manger. And, I got in trouble because I didn't/couldn't kneel there that long without looking around, sitting on my heels, etc. And I WILL NEVER FORGET. I honestly remember thinking, "Well, Mary got to sit in a chair for the whole deal. If I could have done that, I would have made it through."

My struggles as a child in a school/church setting affected my decisions in the classroom throughout my 35 years as a teacher.

You would have been a lovely angel, Abby.

If you ever go to Paris, you have to try pain au chocolat. It's dark chocolate wrapped in a delicious pastry and I swear it si the best thing. :) Not ooey or gooey, so I think you'd like it. :)

Ah, Christmas plays... I don't miss that phase of my life. At all. Sheesh. Stupid jerks!

I skipped the questiosn thsi week since I was doing my thanksgiving posts, but this was a fun set of questions!

Crunchy gingerbread cookies = very, very wrong! Anytime I've eaten one, I always just feel like I'm eating a stale cookie. There's something about a soft gingerbread cookie that just seems so Christmas-y to me.

I actually fully wish I could wear sports shorts all the time. So comfortable!! What's not to love?

By the way, your Grandpa McDougall loved soft molasses cookies and I've never used any other recipe than the one Mom made. I love them soft, too!

"Believe me, it is hard on parents, also, and we cry inside when our children are in pain." Marlys, isn't that the truth?! And it never changes...not even when they are parents themselves!

Barb, I'm sure the multitude of students whom you taught over 35 years were very blessed to have you.

What is your color?

Green My favorite color ever! I have to control myself to not purchase too many green things. If I had no control, my house would be green. My kitchen would be lime-themed. With greenery everywhere. My bathrooms would be green. My bedroom would be green. You would all feel nauseated-green after entering my home. (So I don't have a green-themed home) Many things I love are green, such as: Spinach (I eat it a minimum twice a day usually) My weding color was green. (clover green) Limes (I have at least one time a day) Grass. I love the feel of grass, especially since I see it so rarely in AZ (except in my neighborhood that has amazing landscapers with grass-galore) Palm trees. Any tree. Christmas trees. I love Christmas Green Beer. I think the green beer on St. Patty's Day tastes better. My favorite color of eyes. When I was in 9th grade, I so badly wanted to get green contacts. But they made me keep my brown eyes. Diet Mountain Dew (my guilty pleasure) Granny Smith...

A weekend of the great outdoors

As I am preparing for my return to the real world tomorrow, I feel a strong sense of dread. As I won't have a weekend or free week for a long while! Instead of focusing on that.......I'm sharing a few snapshots from our awesome weekend! This weekend we were in Big Lake, AZ -- which is about 20 miles from the New Mexico border (just 5 1/2 hours from our house). (last weekend we were in Parker Canyon...which I will blog about another day) We camped from Friday-Monday, which was the perfect length of time. The temperatures were a great escape from hot Tucson. In fact...it was VERY cold at night. It was in the low 30's at night, 60's during the day. The trout fishing was incredible. Here's a few snapshots: Home Sweet Home for the weekend! Look at the giant tree I cut down!!! Wow!! (Okay, this was posed...) But...Ryan did teach me how to use a wood-saw! There were tons of dead/fallen trees lying around. So we cut all our firewood for the weekend! I felt very ...

One Confused Lady

Yesterday morning was packed with a session of cross training.....rushed home to shower and get professional-looking....headed across town for an interview.....kicked butt at my interview...."bopped" over to our house to see the progress of the build......headed to the "design center" to sign more paperwork.... (Side note: I cannot get over just how much paperwork is involved in building a house. Holy Hannah. And we haven't even closed !!! Iy-yi-yi....Those lovely people in history who got law-suit-happy.....God bless 'em.) Yesterday was a good day! So here's a little humor for your Thursday. A little thought. A little depth.....( A little cynical rant ) Afterwards, I decided to head to one of my favorite places to peruse.... Target. But my experience at Target was far from fun, relaxing, or pleasant. Just confusing. Loud. Crazy. Despite many screaming children-temper tantrums.... Which is common and un-escapable. Although screaming chi...
