Ten on Tuesday

I'm on day shift!! It is like night & day of difference....ha....ha.....ha...literally ;)

But really, it's crazy! But I like it. I literally run non-stop from 7am-8pm. Shove a salad in my mouth at about 4pm while I'm charting. I'm learning....A LOT!!!

But...I'm SOOOO much happier! I love waking up in the MORNING. And going to bed at NIGHT! Ah, the simple things in life ;)

Anyways, here's the 10!

1. What is a food that you never thought you would try, but then tried and liked?

Gorgonzola cheese. The 1st time it ever came out on a salad that I ordered @ a restaurant, I about barfed right on the plate. It looked terrifying!!! But, I love it.

Also, Steak Tartar. I ordered it on our honeymoon - and yes, it's raw steak. Like...cold.

I LOVED IT. It is on my list of "favorite foods"!!

2. Do you subscribe to any foodie publications? If so, which ones?
Bon Appetit! Also, I used to get Simply Recipes -- which I miss!!

3. What ingredient do you find yourself reaching for the most when you cook?
Okay this is really funny. My sister did this post too, and had the SAME ANSWER AS ME
Cumin & Crushed Red Pepper.

I also like good ole' Lawry's
4. Are there any foods that you hated as a child, but then learned to like as an adult?
I HATED stir fry. Now, it's my favorite.
I GAGGEd at the site of milk. Now, when I'm feeling famished @ work....I got straight for the fridge and drink a mini-carton of Skim. Sooo bizarre....
5. What do you like to eat that others may consider weird?
Everything? Mustard on salad, mustard on potatoes, mustard on ummmm anything.
Ketchup on macoroni - my favorite comfort food
Also, sauerkraut. In fact, to keep my pH balance correct, I eat about 3 fork-fuls of it daily. (It was in my 4-Hr-Body book that this is wise....my tummy has been happy lately...As have my taste buds! Mm!)

6. What is the weirdest ingredient you’ve ever cooked with?
Probably just all the venison I cook! My husband hunts, so our freezer is filled with ground venison, venison steaks, venison roasts...

Sometimes I feel very primitive soaking a big ole' slab-o-meat in a bottle of red wine for dinner. (it makes the meat quite tender)
Okay, I created a weird visual. I pour the bottle into a container & soak the meat. I don't put the meat in the bottle.
7. Do you have any major food allergies?
Nope. Well, I "claim" to be allergic to eggs. Ha! But I'm not. I just think I'm going to start using that. People get snarky when you turn down the food they cook - but if you have an allergy it's okay. So I think I need to just fake an allergy so I don't have to deal with that..

Yes. I am unreasonable!
8. Is there an ingredient that you would like to cook with, but are intimidated to try?
Not really! I'm kinda fearless. I guess I get a little nervous when I cook "whole" things -- such as a whole chicken, etc....
9. Do you bake?
I used to! But I don't spend as much time in the kitchen as I used to. I love love love baking bread. And Pies.

10. If you could go on any “foodie” show to compete, which one would it be, and why?
I've never really watched any foodie show..except for Iron Chef. Which I would not do well with. I don't do so hot with time constraints in the kitchen ;)
****apology if there were many typos in this post. I'm exhausted, burnt out, and feeling too stubborn to proofread tonight. ;)

I love that we both said cumin & crushed red pepper. :)

Confession: I have never had venison. It sort of grosses me out! When I was dating Ryan, his roommate would make it and it looked like these black slabs of meat that were incredibly tough... but they didn't marinate them, so maybe that is why?

Also, props to you for trying & liking steak tartare - that is something I don't think I could ever try!!

WAHOOOO FOR DAYS!!! I bet it feels great! I'm still trying to recover-I think I'm behind about 2 nights of sleep! Ooooh the little cartons of milk...I'm with you! I go for CHOCOLATE SKIM MILK plus I raid the pantry for some graham crackers. Yum yum yum. Yeah, I've probably eaten 10lb worth of stolen hospital graham crackers in the past 9 months...I have nightmares that the CEO is going to come after me hah! Glad you're back to days too!!

Sauer kraut = probiotic! Great suggestion! Only, I don't think I could stop at 3 forkfuls! It's amazing how your taste buds have matured! When you were young, you were my fussiest eater and now you will eat most anything! I think Iron Chef & Chopped are fun to watch but I would die if I had to compete like that!

What is your color?

Green My favorite color ever! I have to control myself to not purchase too many green things. If I had no control, my house would be green. My kitchen would be lime-themed. With greenery everywhere. My bathrooms would be green. My bedroom would be green. You would all feel nauseated-green after entering my home. (So I don't have a green-themed home) Many things I love are green, such as: Spinach (I eat it a minimum twice a day usually) My weding color was green. (clover green) Limes (I have at least one time a day) Grass. I love the feel of grass, especially since I see it so rarely in AZ (except in my neighborhood that has amazing landscapers with grass-galore) Palm trees. Any tree. Christmas trees. I love Christmas Green Beer. I think the green beer on St. Patty's Day tastes better. My favorite color of eyes. When I was in 9th grade, I so badly wanted to get green contacts. But they made me keep my brown eyes. Diet Mountain Dew (my guilty pleasure) Granny Smith...

A weekend of the great outdoors

As I am preparing for my return to the real world tomorrow, I feel a strong sense of dread. As I won't have a weekend or free week for a long while! Instead of focusing on that.......I'm sharing a few snapshots from our awesome weekend! This weekend we were in Big Lake, AZ -- which is about 20 miles from the New Mexico border (just 5 1/2 hours from our house). (last weekend we were in Parker Canyon...which I will blog about another day) We camped from Friday-Monday, which was the perfect length of time. The temperatures were a great escape from hot Tucson. In fact...it was VERY cold at night. It was in the low 30's at night, 60's during the day. The trout fishing was incredible. Here's a few snapshots: Home Sweet Home for the weekend! Look at the giant tree I cut down!!! Wow!! (Okay, this was posed...) But...Ryan did teach me how to use a wood-saw! There were tons of dead/fallen trees lying around. So we cut all our firewood for the weekend! I felt very ...

One Confused Lady

Yesterday morning was packed with a session of cross training.....rushed home to shower and get professional-looking....headed across town for an interview.....kicked butt at my interview...."bopped" over to our house to see the progress of the build......headed to the "design center" to sign more paperwork.... (Side note: I cannot get over just how much paperwork is involved in building a house. Holy Hannah. And we haven't even closed !!! Iy-yi-yi....Those lovely people in history who got law-suit-happy.....God bless 'em.) Yesterday was a good day! So here's a little humor for your Thursday. A little thought. A little depth.....( A little cynical rant ) Afterwards, I decided to head to one of my favorite places to peruse.... Target. But my experience at Target was far from fun, relaxing, or pleasant. Just confusing. Loud. Crazy. Despite many screaming children-temper tantrums.... Which is common and un-escapable. Although screaming chi...
