Wednesday Smiles

News Flash - I have reached a point where I am "over" living in this hotel. I cannot bring myself to elaborating, as this post would turn into a novel.

But let me just say, because I am incapable of holding back my words, that we have had to get our door to our room fixed 5 times now. Yep. That means I've been locked out of the room 5 different times. On Friday when I got locked out, it was after my 9 mile run. It took 2 hours for them to fix it! So I sat out in the sultry Texas heat before I could get into my room and get some post-run hydration, food, and shower!! Oh, and the front desk told me I "wasn't helping the situation because I refused to be moved to a different room". We live here for 4 months. Moving 4 months worth of shit is not helpful.

Okay, back to Wednesday smiles.

Here are the little things that are bringing great smiles to my face today.

  1. The days I don't work, I get to eat lunch with Ryan. Living on base has it's challenges, but I love that even when Ryan has a 30 minute lunch he gets to come "home" (to our hotel room). I make him sandwiches, and it makes me feel like old-fashioned-trophy-wife. This is probably the only time in our life we will have this luxury (until we retire...). So I'm relishing in this little blessing.
  2. My new running shoes arrived in the mail today! I got an email alert that they were delivered to the Post Office at 6:16 am, post office opens at 8:30. So I stood in line waiting for the doors to open, to retrieve my package today!
  3. I am currently roasting beets. In our hotel room. In my crockpot. I never thought I'd roast a large quantity of beets in a hotel room. There's a first time for everything.
  4. I cannot wait to enjoy these beets over a bed of arugala, kale, spinach, and chicken breasts for dinner tonight! I adore beets. I am trying to convert Ryan to a "beet lover". Cross your fingers, please! He knows not what he's missing.
  5. I'm doing a leg workout with Ryan tonight that involves 150 leg presses, 120 lunges, 90 hamstring curls, and 60 quadricep extensions. Although my stomach is queasy thinking about this -- I love the fun of challenging weight lifting workouts!
  6. I found a Bourbon Slush recipe to serve at our "Welcome Home" BBQ. It has Bourbon, Orange juice, lemonade, and tea. I think it will perfectly accompany the pork shoulder we will be smoking. We are bringing a little Texas "home" with us!
  7. There are 8 shifts left of this travel contract from h-e-l-l. 7 down! Meaning tomorrow at 1:30, I will be at my half-way point. On Sunday, I texted a "rhyme" to my husband for every hour counting down my excitement of getting out of there. Meaning I wrote 12 rhymes during the day.
  8. Don't judge me.
  9. Saturday we are going to Six Flags. Ryan is making me. I am terrified. Last time I went on a roller coaster, I cried like a young child. 60% of me is excited to do something childishly fun. The other 40% of me is terrified. I will be fasting Saturday prior to this, so I don't loose my cookies on the "Terrorcoaster".

What simple pleasures are bringing you joy this week?

Oh my gosh, I still remember that photo of you & Nick on the kiddie coaster at Valley Fair and you have that death grip on his neck and look terrified! I hate amusement parks, too! Do they have a water park? I could handle a water park! I haven't been to Valley Fair in like 10+ years. I will go on rides to avoid being called a chicken. I was telling a sales rep that one day and he said, 'so basically you are a prideful chicken.' And yep, that pretty much sums it up.

I can't wait for you to get the heck out of that hotel room and back to your spacious house! Enjoy those roasted beets - sounds delish! I was SO tempted to get chipotle tonight becuase I was tired and hungry and had a headache, but I resisted and had steamed veggies, a tuna sandwich and a salad. Boring. But healthy-ish. :)

LOL! I thought of the same picture as Lisa and you hanging on to Nick for dear life on a child's roller coaster! I hope you have fun! I always just kept my eyes closed through the rides and that helped. I now find that rides that go in circles are the worst and I can no longer do them! Your workout sounds pretty tough - good luck! My legs ache thinking about that! In a little more than two weeks now and you will be on your way "home"! Hang in there!

What is your color?

Green My favorite color ever! I have to control myself to not purchase too many green things. If I had no control, my house would be green. My kitchen would be lime-themed. With greenery everywhere. My bathrooms would be green. My bedroom would be green. You would all feel nauseated-green after entering my home. (So I don't have a green-themed home) Many things I love are green, such as: Spinach (I eat it a minimum twice a day usually) My weding color was green. (clover green) Limes (I have at least one time a day) Grass. I love the feel of grass, especially since I see it so rarely in AZ (except in my neighborhood that has amazing landscapers with grass-galore) Palm trees. Any tree. Christmas trees. I love Christmas Green Beer. I think the green beer on St. Patty's Day tastes better. My favorite color of eyes. When I was in 9th grade, I so badly wanted to get green contacts. But they made me keep my brown eyes. Diet Mountain Dew (my guilty pleasure) Granny Smith

8 Months

Well, I missed month 1-8. But it is never too late to begin, right? Here is a recap of Maddy at 8 months. (I'm totally stealing this idea from my sister, Lisa. I thought it was so neat that she recaps her son's favorites and happenings every month)   How am I sleeping? Better than I was - but not as good as my peers. It also depends on if I'm teething. Last week, her 2nd tooth was poking through - so she was awake 3 times.  No matter how much I let her cry it out, I cannot seem to cut down her feedings. When I go in there - she is literally pulling at my shirt with her mouth wide open. So clearly she's hungry.  She eats 2 times/night and luckily goes right back to sleep. It is what it is. What am I eating? While we have had breastfeeding and bottle refusal struggles - I am so glad that taking to food as been relatively smooth. We are doing baby led weaning, and Maddy really enjoys most every food I've given her.  Her favorite foods are scrambled eggs, apples, and c

Currently - May edition

I haven't blogged much - but the last time I did one of these, Maddy was 9 months old. It's really fun looking back on the things that were "stressors" to me at that time. Prior to that - my currently post was a pregnancy edition.  So here goes May 2022. Maddy is almost a 15-month old and summer has set ablaze here in Tucson.   Reading :  I really wish I had a better answer for this one, but I have not been the best about reading lately. The only book I'm reading is "How to talk to your kids so they'll listen and listen so they'll talk". It is really good. Most of the book is geared more to school-aged kids, in my opinion. But it highlights some great communication skills with children to help them trust you as a parent to be open and honest. Eating: All the smoothies. It has been getting really hot here - and every day when we get home from our stroller run I make a smoothie for Maddy with whole milk, Fage, and fruit - and then a smoothie for
