Getting To Know Me Through 17 Questions

Happy Monday! And Happy last week of July. Normal parts of the country are morning this. I am celebrating. It is so. Freaking. Hot. Especially since the jist of our weekend was spent outdoor cutting down cacti/brush and painting/building furniture!

Since I've last been on here - we have moved. And have we ever been busy!! But we are absolutely loving the new nest!! More to come on that. In the meantime, to "warm" myself back up to blogging - I'm joining in on this fun little post.

Getting To Know Me Through 17 Questions, which I borrowed from my sister Lisa.

1. What brings your the greatest joy?
I'd have to say being outdoors in nature. Especially with Ryan. And spending time with my family.

2. What are your vices?
Cheese and crackers - especially sharp cheddar. That is my go-to snack. And now that I work at home, I'm guilty of just having that for lunch sometimes. Which is terrible! I used to pack healthy salads - but now it's so easy to just slice a few pieces of cheese, have an apple, and pick away while I work.

There could be worse vices, however.

3. What is on your nightstand.
Just my glasses. Ever since we had our house on the market - and our rule was to have no thing on the counters....I am a little anal about having NOTHING on the counters/nightstand if possible!

4. What is your secret talent?
Playing the xylophone? That is the only one I can think of. I did a solo my senior year on it - and felt pretty awesome.

5. What is your greatest indulgence?
Starbucks. I get it about 1-2 times/week. But I only do it if I'm reached a certain benchmark the day before at work and on the way home from my run.

6. What should everyone try at least once in their life?
I know I couldn't get many to do this. But I say a backpacking trip. It's very humbling to realize you are responsible for all the work behind all your resources - and your whole life is carried on your back. You also feel so immersed in nature. I always return from a backpacking trip feeling incredibly refreshed and grateful.

7. What makes you laugh?
A lot of things. I would say I probably laugh about something every hour of the day! If you can't laugh at yourself and the things around you, life would get pretty heavy sometimes.

8. What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
I worked as a hotel maid for 2 weeks. It was the worst job of my life. Worst 2 weeks of my life. And I like cleaning!

9. What is on your bucket list?
Doing a mission trip in India. Why India? It's a long story - but I learned about a village that really touched my heart when I was at church a few years ago. If I can't make India work - then I will go anywhere.

10. What is on your feet right now?
My old pair of Mizunos, as I'm getting ready to head to the gym for spin class soon!

11. How did you make your 1st dollar?
Babysitting. At age 10. That is insane when I think about it!

12. What superstition do you believe in?
I don't believe in any superstitions.

13. What items in your closet do you wear the most?
This time of year - shorts from Old Navy and a matching tank top from Target (I have quite the collection). We are on like a 40-day streak of +100 degrees, and I don't have to wear real clothes to work anymore! :)

But I refuse to wear PJ's or workout clothes while I'm working. Because I don't want to become a slob.

14. What is the best gift you've ever received?
That is tough! I am surrounded by so many loving and gracious people in my life - I've received a lot of great gifts. I'd have to say the one that takes the cake is Last year Ryan's Anniversary gift to me was a 1 hour facial, 1 hour massage, and a scuba excusion. One of my favorite days ever!!!! And it was all a surprise :)

15. What is on your liquor shelf?
I'd say we have a pretty much full-stocked bar since we like to entertain. But what we have accessible is vodka for me and Jack Daniels for Ryan - as those are our drinks of choice ;). I'm not a big hard-liquor drinker, however.

16. What is on your kitchen counter?
Coffee pot, banana "rack", coffee cannister, knife block, and a bowl of apples/lemons/limes. I try to keep as little as possible on the counters so it's easier to clean.

17. What would you never leave home without?
Phone and a big bottle of water.

I did not know that you played the xylophone! And it's crazy that you babysat at the age of 10. Yikes! Ryan did a great job with your anniversary gift last year - I can see why that tops the list!!

Fun read! I love this kind of posts as we always learn something about the people we know! I remember the xylophone solo - you rocked at it! I am sure your piano skills helped, though! I miss the music at home since you kids left - seems like someone was always playing the piano or practicing their instruments.
Ryan is a awesome gift giver - a rare trait in most men, I believe!

I've really been enjoying reading this post on everyone's blogs!! I also babysat when I was 10 or 11 years old - seems so young now! And that is smart to always have a big bottle of water on hand when you leave the house. I should get better at doing that too.

Currently - May edition

I haven't blogged much - but the last time I did one of these, Maddy was 9 months old. It's really fun looking back on the things that were "stressors" to me at that time. Prior to that - my currently post was a pregnancy edition.  So here goes May 2022. Maddy is almost a 15-month old and summer has set ablaze here in Tucson.   Reading :  I really wish I had a better answer for this one, but I have not been the best about reading lately. The only book I'm reading is "How to talk to your kids so they'll listen and listen so they'll talk". It is really good. Most of the book is geared more to school-aged kids, in my opinion. But it highlights some great communication skills with children to help them trust you as a parent to be open and honest. Eating: All the smoothies. It has been getting really hot here - and every day when we get home from our stroller run I make a smoothie for Maddy with whole milk, Fage, and fruit - and then a smoothie for...

A weekend of the great outdoors

As I am preparing for my return to the real world tomorrow, I feel a strong sense of dread. As I won't have a weekend or free week for a long while! Instead of focusing on that.......I'm sharing a few snapshots from our awesome weekend! This weekend we were in Big Lake, AZ -- which is about 20 miles from the New Mexico border (just 5 1/2 hours from our house). (last weekend we were in Parker Canyon...which I will blog about another day) We camped from Friday-Monday, which was the perfect length of time. The temperatures were a great escape from hot Tucson. In fact...it was VERY cold at night. It was in the low 30's at night, 60's during the day. The trout fishing was incredible. Here's a few snapshots: Home Sweet Home for the weekend! Look at the giant tree I cut down!!! Wow!! (Okay, this was posed...) But...Ryan did teach me how to use a wood-saw! There were tons of dead/fallen trees lying around. So we cut all our firewood for the weekend! I felt very ...

Good things

I must say there are many good things I have to be happy about right now! I am in my psychiatric-mental health nursing rotation right now. I originally chose nursing as my major beause from the time I was like 12 I wanted to be a psych nurse. I love it so far. The clinicals are incredible. I am finding I am more organized and ahead of things in this class than I ever have been! Now, if I could be this motived with Critical Care and my Capstone this summer......:) Ryan and I got an entire day together yesterday!!!! This is rare. My spring break kind of sucked. He would leave at about 6 a.m., and not return until 8 p.m. The poor guy is spread too thin! So I cherish a day like yesterday! Which consisted of............. Spring Training baseball!!!!!! Diamondbacks vs. Oakland Atheletics. It was nearly a close-out. 10-1. We met his bosses wife at the game and she insisted we ditch our seats & sit in the seats in front of them that they had purchased . So we were FRONT ROW BEHIND HO...
